After Marika's Ph.D defence and subsequent party (congrats!) I took a quick trip over the bridge to #Copenhagen. I visited the feel shops of Faraos Cigarer but the real highlight was going to #cphdox and their Interactive exhibit with #VR, #AR and game artworks.

The game WE ARE HERE BECAUSE OF THOSE THAT ARE NOT by instagram.com/ladydangfua was a highlight, providing a trip into an utopian digital world where the needs of #trans people (of color) are (for once) met.

Photo of a screen with the game running on it. Two towers are visible, the Hormone Tower and the Trans Relaxation Spa. The aesthetic is punk and Playstation-like. In front of the screen are three buttons which are used to make choices in the game, and allowing the player to visit different locations.Meeting one of the characters, a creature with many faces and with a flamboyant hairstyle. The character is captioned, saying "This hormone tower grants you free access everything you need to change your body"Two characters made up of many faces, the caption reading "Together we are the pro black Trans security team"A plaque describing the work:

'WE ARE HERE BECAUSE OF THOSE THAT ARE NOT', is a Black Trans Archive/video game by Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley, the Black British Trans artist and game developer.
'WE ARE HERE BECAUSE OF THOSE THAT ARE NOT' is part of her DOTCOM series which compiles archives of the lives and stories of black trans people. The work was designed alongside Black Trans people in London, collaboratively designing the characters' landscapes and story. The installation consists of a screen and three interactive buttons that allow you to enter pixelated spaces in which avatars in low-resolution blocks reminiscent 3D graphics in 1990s.

In 1977, my wife Annie and I opened the first public access microcomputer center. The Marin Computer Center was a nonprofit org in a library of a repurposed elementary school. We started with 9 Processor Technology Sol-20s and one Equinox. Eventually we had 40 micros (Atari, Apple II, TRS-80, Pet) people could rent for $1.50/hr. So many Marin kids got turned onto computers and went on to do great things. Jump to page 7 of this 1978 People’s Computers article by Annie

I've spent most of my life struggling financially, and honestly it makes me kind of angry how some of these things I can afford now help me. (Though, again, I did not buy *myself* a goofy Facebook helmet.) Smart watches should be covered medical devices for dealing with ADHD. Even basic VR is good for anxiety and PTSD. People do not only deserve these things if they can claw their way to a mid-range skilled salary position. #disability

Apropos of nothing: I was given one of those Meta Quest 2 headsets as a holiday thing December before last and I don't use it often, but the one thing I do use it for is managing anxiety and, occasionally, trauma. Last summer I had a pretty traumatic day with the cat rescue, and I genuinely think playing VR Tetris that night helped prevent it from becoming weeks of horrible intrusive thoughts and memories.

From the promised land of maker culture. My friend and colleague Patrik has dug time into developing his own analog digital camera based on Raspberry Pi and old camera lenses from the Soviet Union, this one from 1967. This open source digital camera produces images with a clear retro feeling and a rather unique section. Here are a couple of pictures with the camera, and a link for those who want to dig a little into the project.

I guess I like adding to @gruber posts.

As a lifelong disabled person, Elon’s cruelty—his blatant ableism—is reminiscent of Trump mocking that disabled NYT reporter years ago. It also jibes with the gutting of Twitter’s accessibility team.

(Also personal to me given the death threats and other hate I’ve received in the last few weeks by trolls Elon welcomed back to Twitter.)

He give zero shits about people like me.

Tyler says that he is inspired by a feature with the same name: StreetPass on Nintendo 3DS. With your Nintendo 3DS you automatically find other 3DS owners you are in close physical proximity with, and share certain information.

Engadget wrote a nostalgic piece about StreetPass. Both Tyler and Endadget stress the social power that StreetPass had, allowing you to meet new people to become friends with and play together.

A playable version of on an brick using a @Raspberry_Pi@raspberrypi.social by @ancientjames. Uses an accelerometer and tilt for movement, and a capacitance touch sensor to shoot. Subframe sampling to make the tiny monochrome LCD give 8 gray levels (not 3 like I originally thought!). This is miraculous stuff. 😮 youtube.com/watch?v=o76U0JPrMFk

Are you F1-curious? You're in luck!

I've been doing an F1 podcast geared toward beginners since 2014 with my good friends Danny O'Dwyer and Rob Zacny, and we just posted our annual introductory episode that explains everything!

The first race of the season is on March 5th. Buckle up!

Silly as it sounds, I've been looking forward to being able to do this kind of multitasking while doing household chores! :D

The headset is on loan from work, though it's basically just a beefy #Android smartphone with a wired connection to the #HUD display glasses. It doesn't have any kind of environment tracking built it (unlike e.g the #Hololens) but being able to keep videos and other information at the top of one's field of vision is still quite compelling.
