I arrived at Hamburg main station, tracks 13+14 - just where over a week ago, a mentally ill German woman injured 15 in a brutal knife attack, some severely. She was stopped by two men: a young refugee from Syria and a man from Chechnya. The press quickly dropped the case.

That had not at all been the case when a similarly ill man, but a refugee, killed two in Bavaria. For weeks, up to our elections, this tragic event was heavily exploited to push anti-migrant politics.

Do you know "fear of finalisation"?

In most things I write, I struggle with finalisation - even while I write, my mind develops so many other ways in which I could have embedded an argument, formulated a sentence. As I go down one path, I see another.

As an associative thinker, I see layers of context, sprawling networks of meaning.

What to do?

Only when I write poetry - abstract, complex poetry - I sometimes find formulations that are solid - mysteriously, self-consciously, they survive.

May 20 is World Bee Day. There are ~20,000 different bee species in the world. Here in Ontario we have at least 400 native bees (none of which are the honeybees, which are from Europe). Bees are key to pollination. According to the UN nearly 90% of the world’s wild flowering plant species depend, entirely, or in part, on animal pollination, along with more than 75% of the world’s food crops. 🧵1/n

Am Bodensee und im Landkreis Böblingen müssen die lokalen Behörden bereits das Abpumpen von Oberflächenwasser für Bewässerung untersagen. Auch andere Landkreise warnen bereits wegen #Dürre. Jede Wasserentnahme sei zudem gefährlich für den Fischbestand.

American Geophysical Union (#AGU) and the American Meteorological Society Say They’ll Keep Working on #US #NationalClimateAssessment
The organizations said they would publish researchers’ work even after Trump administration decision to dismiss all authors on the project.
The new effort would not replace the federal report, which is Congressionally mandated, the statement from AGU and American Meteorological Society said.

👉 Wir fordern deshalb mehr Engagement der Bundesregierung für die Verkehrssicherheit, den schnellen Ausbau sicherer Radwege und Tempo 30 als Regelgeschwindigkeit innerorts.
