Working on this tiny moss light prototype. Do you have ideas on what to call this series?

There it is - finally! The first moss light, in a nearly finished state. It’s been a while since the moss lights made an appearance, and this is the first one to show up in my post history here. This piece ended up being the prize in a giveaway (which I’m skipping here, since those posts aren’t too relevant for the timeline or the history of my work). I might do another giveaway sometime, though!

Adding the ink drops to the shaggy mane ink caps. They are nearly done, just a bit of painting and detailing the base to do. I will show them lit up very soon!
Silicone can't be painted - but I created a recipe for a paint that does stick to cured silicone! It's made out of... silicone 😂

It’s been a little while since I last posted - things get busy!
Video isn’t really my forte (yet?), but I’m considering starting a video channel. That would mean learning editing and figuring out a video setup… which I don’t really have time for at the moment.
Still, maybe! It could be a nice way to show more of my process.

I've run out of white mushrooms. Should I make more?

I might have to make more. But first, the orders I'm working on now—and some more mosses. Maybe even my very big moss piece, the one I never seem to have time for. After that, a few other artworks. I might even do something completely different from my usual work. So maybe, when I’m 80, I’ll make new white mushrooms? My husband jokes that my waitlist is 800 years long, so what’s one more project? Might as well make it 900.

Dandelion light: Taraxacum laneum. I'm deciding on whether to make more of this one or leave it at just one. Either way it is available in my Etsy store today.

Fun fact: while this one has sold, there’s still one from the second series available in my shop! (https://levendlichtje.etsy.com) So I did end up making more of these after all, though only because someone requested them. And once I’m making one, I tend to make a few at the same time. This ensures I can always send the best one to the person who commissioned it, as I have spares.
It also helps keep prices lower than they otherwise would be. I dislike high art prices because they put art out of reach for many people. But these lights take a lot of time to make, and I do need to feed my kids (and myself) in the process. By making more at once, I can spread the costs better.

Night view of Amanita muscaria II

It’s always a tough choice: night or day first? If I post only the night image, a lot of details get lost. You can barely see the white spots on the mushroom top. But if I post just the day image, you miss out on the lamp’s glow and how it lights up at night. Sometimes I share both, but I find that posting one image at a time works best. Maybe there’s no perfect answer to this.

My Amanita muscaria lights are finished. They will be included in the next shop update this Sunday 22:00 CEST. More pictures to come, including night view.

These have long been sold. Maybe I should make new ones! But I might just be happy leaving them as they are. I made a total of seven. One first, then six as a series. I think. Or was it four?

This picture keeps making me happy. On the left @ecolifetube mini terrarium. On the right, my small pixel light. Picture by @ecolifetube
Look at how tiny that terrarium is! In a reused plastic PET bottle, to create sustainable terrariums. I've been following his work for a long time, and it's really good! The tiny ones are one of my favorites.

Still lovely! Terrariums are one of my favorite things to make. Wim from Ecolifetube.nl creates great ones using reused bottles to make them eco-friendly - I'm still a big fan of that! Since then, I’ve made a few terrariums myself using thrifted glass, and some have been thriving for years!
A tiny bottle terrarium stands next to a small mushroom light against a bright white background. The terrarium has a small Ecolifetube tag hanging around its neck, while the mushroom light features a colored fabric-wrapped USB cord. The mushroom light consists of a single small red-capped mushroom with a long, slender white stem.

I am over the moon about this stamp by @paper_afternoon. It will be on all the packaging and my new business cards. I might go a little crazy and stamp it on everything in reach. 😀
Yes, I know it's skewed. I need to learn. More reasons to stamp on everything.

I designed my new logo back then and ordered it as a stamp—it's still in use! Since then, I’ve also created a few stamps myself, which I use to sign my lamps. Most lamps have a tiny version of this logo on the bottom or back, and some also feature my initials stamp. I use both!

A hand-carved rubber stamp with the logo 'Levend Lichtje' is placed on a wooden surface. The design features a stylized glowing mushroom inside an arched frame. Next to the stamp is a stamped print on a piece of kraft paper. A red USB cable runs across the paper. This one is Papaver luminosum III, which I just listed in my Etsy store. (Link in bio)
I registered my little art shop today, which means I am now officially an entrepreneur! :)

I registered my work with the KVK, the Dutch official business registry. I’m not sure how that works in other countries—there’s probably some regulation for it too. The process was pretty straightforward and quick, and then I received a big stack of flyers about networking and financing. Very nice, but not exactly useful for me. The business world isn’t very art-focused. Can’t blame them, though.
Lately, I’ve been looking around more, searching for artists like me to connect with. Maybe I should reach out to magazines? Or maybe I should dig up those flyers on networking...

First of the three poppy lights that I finished: this is "Papaver luminosum", 26 * 11 cm. Paper flower with embedded light on 'moss' needlefelted base. These will be in my Etsy shop tomorrow! (link in bio)
I'm also still working on the Amanita muscaria light, but my glass domes have been delayed. I hope they will be here soon!

This one never sold! Funny - I thought it would go pretty quickly. I'm often wrong about what will sell and what won’t. Which means I should either get better at predicting that or just keep making things without worrying about sales. I like the second option better, so that’s what I’m doing. Might be the stupidest option too, though.

Monotropa uniflora, finished. Silicone flowers with electronic parts on a base of painted paper leaves, paper twigs and paper soil. Combined with needle felted and embroidered lichen. In my Etsy store tomorrow. (Link in bio)

(It has long been sold, but I'm open to commissions.) I'm still pretty happy with this one. It is nice and silent—a quality I like. A quality that doesn’t even seem to be recognized as a quality. But it is—though it’s hard to describe exactly what I mean. It’s something that simply exists, without needing sound or loudness to justify its presence. It does not need "bombarie," a Dutch word meaning an unnecessary spectacle.

Finishing these little Monotropa uniflora flowers today. The base is a bit empty now, so I am making twigs and leaves.
Monotropa is a fascinating flower. It does not have any chlorophyll like other plants, and does not get its food by photosynthesis. It is parasitic on specific mushrooms instead.
They will be in my shop soon! Link in bio.

I'm actually working on a commission featuring these flowers again right now! They still remain one of my favorite lights - such special flowers. The complete absence of chlorophyll, and the striking white/pink color as a result. It all makes the light fit in there nicely. I do have to reinvent the process of making them though, as I've changed materials since. But I'm good at reinventing things, so that should be fine!
A sculpture of five Monotropa uniflora flowers in very dark surroundings. The flowers have embedded lights and are the centerpiece of the picture. The flower bulbs are a lovely pale yellow, turning nearly orange where the light dims, while the stems are pinkish-white with shaggy leaves protruding from them.

I'm planning on making a series of this Amanita muscaria. It's going to be slightly different, with another glass dome. Can't find the same one currently. But I think it should be good, no matter what glass dome protects it.
This one became a night light for twins!

There was a giveaway in my archive on Instagram between this and the previous post - but I decided against posting that one here too. It doesn't do much for my archive and it would probably confuse the heck out of anyone here. So I skipped that post and went to the next one.

It does make me wonder though - are giveaways appreciated here too?

My #Etsy shop is open! Link in my bio

So apparently, I have had an Etsy shop for six years now! That's more than I thought it was.
It was very nice to open the shop - a few people immediately bought lights. I don't think my appreciation of that has changed since. In fact, I've been contemplating buying a world map and adding markers to it to remind myself of how many people have supported me this way - and also where my work has traveled.

The Pixels are finished! I am currently taking good pictures - quite a challenge because of the glass and light - and setting up an #Etsy shop. Stay tuned, because I will have a giveaway once I launch the shop!

Just to be extra clear, the Etsy shop has long since opened and the giveaway has ended a long time ago.
I'm not sure, would a giveaway be a good idea on a platform like this too? Maybe? It does seem a little commercial, which I dislike, and which maybe conflicts with the more natural atmosphere of the fediverse. Speaking of which, I'm so glad I joined here. This place is SO much better than the unfederated places have become.

Should I leave this wooden base light? Or should I make it dark(er)? The moss really works the way I hoped! Guess I have to become a felt and embroidery maker too 😓

Not a great picture, but it does show what I like most about social media: being able to ask people questions and get answers. Not always useful ones, but I really like the back and forth with people who see my things. It does help cement ideas a little more, or sometimes change my mind about ideas I had.

While I am working on the second version of these Pixels, here is Pixel #2, Mycetinis rubra. There are five in this first series of Pixel.

Funny how you can forget all about the things you made. I thought I had only made three, but now that I read this, I remember there were five. I don't know where they all ended up though, because most were sold through a shop.
