Today we loaded some tools,
Then went to the .
Started doing some work,
But kept getting 'emergency calls' from Mum.
Mum was mistaking her phone for the nurse call,
So I didn't get any work done.
Took Dad to have a blood test,
Then took him to visit Mum.
She is a lot better this afternoon,
And less confused overall.
Did caretaking,
And chatted with Dad.
Then set up an account on Mastodon.lol,
Will move so please follow me there.
Night all.

The Respect for Marriage Act has just passed the House, 258-169, including 39 Republicans.

It will protect millions of LGBTQ families who otherwise would not have that protection. Senator Tammy Baldwin deserves enormous credit for her leadership in making this happen.

It is a very good thing that this bill is being passed, but it is also a signal of future obstacles. Do not get complacent. This does not end any battles for LGBTQ rights, but it does better prepare us for the battles to come.

@ianturton
I reckon Mum is either using her humour (which is a good sign) or she is thinking of the 'ramps' used on buses and ambulances, and the tail lift ramps on trucks I have hired.

Although I do have form!

‘Tis the season you can’t escape Christmas music.
This lip syncing bear project is a favorite of mine, so I have several videos of him. This one is from last year.
I got the bear head at Target and transformed him: I opened his mouth, added a custom 3D printed mouth piece that holds a servo, made a hole in the back of the head and hid the electronics there. He has a sound sensor that I then use as a microphone to lip sync. #tech #bear #coding #STEAM #microbit #Xmas

Visiting Mum in hospital this afternoon:

Dad: Alfred and Sue have spent two days building you a ramp for when you come home.

Mum: (to me) Oh good. Can I press the button to make it go up and down whenever I want?

Bloody parental expectations!
Rip it up and start again! <Looks on Ebay for hydraulics>
😂

Mum is clearly getting better. 👍

Mastodon feels a little like the alternative I was fantasizing about in this 2019 comic.

I've just come across a lovely word in the book I'm currently reading which is

Confelicity - the pleasure you take from the happiness of others

Which I feel is a good descriptor for this site and the communities that are built up through this site

#Reading #Words

Yep, Struggling with not having the time to work properly on Harriet and Daisy's world, or write about it. The ideas are coming but so is everything else that has to take priority, and my energy.

@snaptophobic
That's likely now.

The last time I had a battery failure we were away from home and had a mile walk to buy a battery, and then a mile walk back again to the car!

One of those little boosters might have to be my next car purchase, just in case now that I have said it!

That's not bad going for a car battery. A good sign the alternator is doing its job properly.

I have been pondering one of those lithium powerbank jump start batteries.
Mostly on the basis of it being useful for many other things.

I don't tend to photograph the #forest at the #goldenhour - particularly when the sun is strong.

That doesn't mean I am not out looking for images at this time of day; it's just that direct sunlight usually adds unwanted complexity to most scenes. The woods are full of chaos & need to be simplified.

Below are some images where the strong golden light did add something extra.

p.s. A big THANK YOU for all of the awesome support on my Groot #tree post.

Three tips for people using #Mastodon through a computer:

1. You can stop timelines scrolling automatically by going to Preferences > Slow Mode, tick box and click "Save Changes".

2. There are loads of "hidden" keyboard shortcuts. Press shift + ? (or just ? on some keyboards) to see a complete list of them.

3. There's an optional Tweetdeck-style multicolumn interface called "advanced mode". Go to Preferences > Enable Advanced Web Interface, tick box and click "Save Changes".

I was imagining the retro images of those fires and folks trying it and setting their cars on fire. 😆
