‘The delay is intended to give the government and exporters in the EU more time to prepare for the checks, setting Rishi Sunak on a collision course with domestic UK food producers who have long argued that it gives a free pass to continental rivals while they have to endure checks on all fresh food exports to the bloc.’

Brexit winning in action.

Here’s a question for all you cyclists who use cleats. What shoes do you wear? The balls of my feet and toes have been getting numb so I think it’s time to change footwear. Or do I just need better insoles? All suggestions gratefully received.

@thirdwhaletrip Very true. I’ve had to have 2 new car tyres in the past year. Someone near us put a plastic duck into one here. It enjoyed paddling around after heavy rain.

“In January, Harry Colledge, a retired music teacher, was killed when his front wheel got stuck in a 23cm-deep pothole in Wyre, Lancashire, and he was thrown from his bike.”

Have been out on the road bike a couple of times this week, and I spent more time looking down at the road than up ahead. Now I won’t go out after heavy rain as I can’t see what’s a puddle and what’s a pothole. George Osborne’s austerity has more than a lot to answer for.

“Our roads are falling to pieces; people are sick to death…They are paying tens of billions in fuel duty, VAT on servicing and repairs to their vehicles. Every time you damage a tyre as a result of hitting a pothole, the government gets 20% [of the cost of repair or replacement, through VAT]. They’re getting £50bn in revenue from road users and giving £1bn back to councils.”

Broken Britain. But fear not, we’ve got all that Brexit winning.

‘Polling now shows Trump and Biden closely matched for a second presidential contest.’

I have to confess to finding this incomprehensible. OK, I understand the crazies supporting Trump no matter what, but that Republicans who believe in the rule of law and democracy are prepared to vote for him is baffling - and depressing.

Sunak signals he may not achieve goals on inflation and NHS waiting lists

theguardian.com/politics/2023/

Let’s face it, Sunak’s only goal is to keep his job, and if making the Tory Party even more populist, and grievance based, is a means to his end, so be it. Abhorrent.

According to the Daily Torygraph, the main story appears to be one about Megan and Harry. Not one word about the latest Trump indictments.

Labour must change the law on newspaper ownership. Right wing non dom billionaires can’t be allowed to continue to manipulate and brainwash. It’s been going on for far too long.

Robert F Kennedy Jr’s campaign bankrolled by Republican mega-donor

‘Thinktanks say the check and balances of civil society such as judges and campaigners are under ‘political attack’ by ministers.’

Everything under the Tories has been, or is being, well and truly destroyed. I know it’s hard to believe but, while this shower remains at the helm, things can only get worse.

“I am a major investor here… If I see this country steering itself over a cliff backing fossil fuel, I am going to start pulling out. I will push my investments over to North America … I must invest where I know I have proper leadership, not leadership which is on a clickbait cycle.”

‘Clickbait’, perfect description. Sunak panders to the lowest common denominator.

‘Tory and Labour MPs said Sunak’s “economically illiterate” announcement was “driving a coach and horses” through previous promises, and warned the prime minister he was “on the wrong side of history” and that modern voters wanted leaders who “protect, and not threaten, our environment”.’

Morally and intellectually indefensible. AndI I thought Johnson and Truss were abhorrent.

Sunak’s private jet to Scotland may have breached ministerial code, says Labour

theguardian.com/politics/2023/

We shouldn’t be surprised at Sunak’s hostility to the ULEZ or 20mph speed limits. Why should a man who hops on a private jet at the drop of a hat concern himself with the impact of pollution on human health or the environment. Fucker.
