@User47
It's dangerous to run something (everything) require root access. Especially when not knowing what is running.
But (I think) for now it's #endof10 that matters, so less barrier == better

@User47 This behavior is provide by github.com/linuxmint/captain.
On #debian 12 (and so does ubuntu/mint) there is github.com/mvo5/gdebi , but it's not installed by default , and would require some configure step after installation.It provides lintian result though ,which is a cool feature in some scenarios.

@mgorny In April I try to pack a python program to .deb , at that time python3-setuptools-gettext don't work with pyproject.toml because there are no way of adding extra build step. I hope this can be resolved before deadline.

😂

The title of the meme is: when mom calls you by full name. A image showing the common name "WiFi" with its technical full name "IEEE 802.11x". Below "WiFi" is a speech bubble saying "Fuck", implying the panic of a child called by their full name by their mother.

@User47 Graphic program on GNU/Linux usually shipped an .desktop file , if not ,you can create one (and even better contribute it back), make .desktop file is not as easy as create shortcut on windows but quiet simple.

Or are you talking about steam? That would explain.

@User47 A little more context : The post said it's because windows didn't set sound card in a good state, so this is a dual-boot specific problem.

@User47 could you try
Cold Boot To LinuxMint?

I found a forum post about Aorus X570 Master dual-boot audio problem.
"Sound" very promising.

@User47 @xdydx
I would recommend searching the official forum at the first place, even if this issue does not appear on someone else's computer, it would be more easier to get developer notified

@hackersquirrel I didn't observe durable goods 's life span decrease. might because
i'm too young to find it out and(or)
chinese goverment do and done the law and demanding stuff well and(or)
it's only around 20-30 years for those durable goods became a thing for most chinese so the move of this kind of lifespan decrease is at an early stage.

allow access root in sale/in warranty model will have drawbacks,
but i think customer should get a easy way to get root access after warranty expire.

@hackersquirrel spilit because length limit
here is a real example about replaceable/upgradeable go wrong:

The reason why my in-ear headphones used to break was that one side of the headphones didn't make a sound, and it was because the cable was broken
so i buy interchangeable cable headphone(the price amlost doubled),hope next time the cable got damaged i can easily replace it because cable is much cheaper compare to headphone 's head (is there a word for this?)

@hackersquirrel i want to know what you think is the difference between upgradeable and forward compatibility
i think forward compatibility sometimes can be done wrong and thus the same when (we try) to make product upgradeable.
i doubt there be one and only truth about upgradeable ,there might be some thing looks upgradeable , but after 10 years/mouth/sec turns out it not. so i dont like the idea of make the gov/law to forbid some ways of design at first place.

@hackersquirrel my opinion
goverment/law demanding seller
SHOULD list specific information of product :
which part repairable?
which part replaceable?
which part upgradeable?
SHOULD list these info priority than functional or color prop

Cosumer choose what they want, whether or not they choose to buy a non-repairable product

@emilioquiroz
I think it depends on what workload is running , and if made the image rigorous, the "windows" here should be an LTSC version

BUT, after I migrate my minecraft server from windows (LTSC) to ubuntu 24.04 , in `htop` result it seems to occupy less ram than i used to saw in `Task manager`.
BUT * 2, idk this is because gnu/linux is really less "hunger" or because i run everything with privileges on my win server inclued sus spigot plugins prebulit with trojan .
