It takes a lot to shake me but this abduction of Rumeysa Ozturk, a Ph.D. student and Fulbright scholar at Tufts is bone-chilling.

Plainclothes, masked agents bundle her into an unmarked car.
apnews.com/video/turkish-stude

It appears her thought crime was co-authoring op-ed in the Tufts newspaper, asking the university to take action in opposition to Israeli war crimes.

She's been whisked off from Massachusetts to Louisiana.

This is the new America.

Citizens are next.

Just in time for tomorrow’s @yimbysforharris call, this week’s video is all about the housing crisis and the growing power of the pro-housing/pro-neighbors movement. On Nebula now, and at the usual place tomorrow!

@parismarx Unless something has changed I believe threads has only allow listed the largest mastodon instances for federation, so everyone on smaller instances are left out of viewing & interacting even if they didn't block threads.

@electrek That thumbnail is nightmare fuel. Elon's decapitated torso sits atop a boardroom table. His frown is comically exaggerated to horror antagonist proportions. His interlaced fingers feature 3 consecutive fingers going one direction.

@geerlingguy Woah, the effect looks so strong! Have you used any of the recommended chelated plant nutrition? Mine is probably still recovering from being repotted and hadn't started glowing noticeably.

@boilingsteam My personal laptop is going on 6 years, framework will probably be my next one.

@briankrebs I use pattern unlock so I just lift my finger and start again

@gardiner_bryant Super neat! Subscribed via activitypub so hopefully new videos will just show up in my feed here.

Rate my setup #CatsOfMastodon

Picture of a desk setup, a laptop on the left with a black mechanical keyboard in front of it. A white mouse with RGB LEDs on the right sits atop a striped mousepad adorned with the cartoon cat character Pusheen, depicted with cartoon drawings of fries, burger, and fast food drink. Behind the mousepad is a real tabby cat curled up inside a green cat cave that sits in the back corner of the desk.

On traffic engineers sabotaging cities that want to improve safety:

"There can be only one agenda... There are many great engineers out there ready to prioritize public safety... Any city council wanting to can find these people, empower them, and support them so that they can do great things."

Confessions of a Recovering Engineer: Transportation for a Strong Town. Charles Marohn.

#StrongTowns #RoadSafety #VisionZero #SafetyFirst #urbanism #onpoli #onpolitics #engineering #trafficsafety

I am also going to point out what I think is obvious: there are many engineers who should lose their jobs. If I were an elected official, I would not tolerate a senior staff member who worked to undermine the initiatives that a majority of elected officials were trying to accomplish, especially when human lives had been lost and more were at stake. In more than two decades of leadership, I have always welcomed dissenting opinions as part of a collaborative process, but I do not tolerate multiple agendas, especially when any of them conflict with the goals of the organization. Public servants need civil service protections to shield them from the nastiness of local politics, but the authority given to senior staff to manage the levers of government power requires them to be directly answerable to elected officials. There can only be one agenda, and it must be that of the duly elected officials.
There are many great engineers out there ready to prioritize public safety over traffic speed and neighborhood prosperity over traffic volume. There are a lot of engineers ready to step out from behind the shield provided by industry standards and fulfill their ethical obligations to use their professional judgement in service of the public. Any city council wanting to can find these people, empower them, and support them so that they can do great things.

@bhyoram @purism I was also an early backer but I paid less 🙃 I'm guessing you backed it after the component shortage caused the crazy price hikes

@dansup I think it might be a lineage rom feature but I've found the screen record quick tile to be super useful for reporting app bugs. It's nice having it as an OS feature.
