Responding to the news of Maccabi Tel Aviv fans being banned from attending a football game against Aston Villa next month Green Party Deputy Leader, Mothin Ali, said;

Everyone should be able to feel safe when they attend a football match, that’s non-negotiable. It’s irresponsible for Keir Starmer to question a safety decision of a local authority, especially when he is responsible for their chronic underfunding.

Under normal circumstances, supporters from across the fanbase should be allowed to attend and provision taken to ban violent elements such as The Ultras. But these are not normal circumstances: these games are taking place in the context of thousands of civilians being killed in Gaza, the illegal occupation of Palestinian land, and the upholding of a system of apartheid.

This raises serious moral questions for the UK, UEFA, and the wider football community. We need a sporting and cultural boycott of all Israeli teams, like we saw for South African teams under apartheid. International sporting bodies can and must take a stand when basic human rights are being violated.

Football should be a force for peace and justice, not a tool to sportwash atrocities.

The Welsh Government made the teaching of Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) history and racism compulsory as part of its broader effort to create a more inclusive, accurate, and socially cohesive education system. The main reasons are:

Address Historical Gaps – Traditional curricula have largely focused on a Euro‑centric narrative, leaving out the contributions, experiences, and struggles of BME communities. Making this content compulsory ensures that students learn a fuller picture of Wales’s—and the UK’s—history.

Promote Understanding and Empathy – Learning about the histories of discrimination, resistance, and cultural contributions helps pupils develop empathy, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation for diversity. This can reduce prejudice and foster mutual respect.

Combat Racism and Discrimination – By explicitly teaching about racism, its roots, and its impacts, schools equip young people with the knowledge and skills needed to recognise and challenge racist attitudes and behaviours in themselves and society.

Reflect Wales’s Diverse Society – Wales is increasingly multicultural. An inclusive curriculum mirrors the lived realities of many students and their families, helping all pupils see themselves represented in what they study.

Legal and Policy Obligations – The move aligns with the Equality Act 2010 and the UK’s broader commitments to equality and human rights. It also supports the Welsh Government’s own policies on inclusion, such as the “Welsh Government Equality Delivery Plan.”

Future‑Ready Citizens – In a globalised world, understanding different cultures, histories, and perspectives is essential for social cohesion, economic participation, and democratic engagement.

By embedding BME history and the study of racism into the national curriculum, Wales aims to build a more informed, tolerant, and equitable society for future generations.

The teaching of Black and Minority Ethnic history and racism is compulsory in Wales, yet it is not a mandatory part of the curriculum in the rest of the UK.

Why's that?

Two years on, we remember the horrific events of 7 October.

We call today, and every day, for an end to the violence.

Pay attention Kemi! Govt. have already set this up as part of the Home Office. Taken the same acronym, ICE. (Immigration compliance and enforcement) and established offices across the country.

A few months ago, in Stroud, we had a group of them dressed in what can only be described as ‘military style’ attire patrolling the town centre and entering various shops at will, Trumpesque style. Overt racism in action.

As with August, it appears that facial recognition dominated the policing news headlines this month. However, unlike Notting Hill carnival, the Metropolitan chief commissioner found no basis for deploying the tech at a recent nationalists’ rally.

Robert Jenrick's own social media photo was captioned; “Great to be with peaceful, patriotic protestors in Epping today.”
