Hard drive update: my laptop came back to life after a visit to tech support and I have backed up all my data. Thank goodness, cus if I'd lost my dozen or so works-in-progress, that would have been miserable. I'm like halfway done with a new album and that would suck to have lost it. :c

IMPORTANT REMINDER to back up your data, even if it feels like a chore. I can promise you, permanently losing everything on your computer feels MUCH worse.
