The weeping angels have come for Christmas. Where's Father Christmas?
"Don't blink Father Christmas. Blink and you're dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink. Good luck."

Inserts something witty and smart which perfectly captures the zeitgeist with a warm yet sardonic tone here...
Well, I would, but it's not even 9pm and I'm in my pj's under the blanket exhausted by the world and desperate for some comic relief.
Maybe tomorrow!
#WritersCoffeeClub 21st October:
What is your take on the adverb debate?
There's a place for everything in #Writing & everything has its place. Anyone who says otherwise is as mad as a box of frogs
Everything in writing should be used judiciously and sparingly. Adverbs have their uses
#LGBTQWriteAThon October 8:
What genre is your WIP?
Tam Lin is Scottish folk ballad where our heroine saves our hero from the Queen of the fairies. It's a #Fantasy but there elements of the mythical, Scottish Folk, naturalist spirit and oral balladry

Janet's conflict comes from both the mortal and spirit world.
The strict morals of the mortal world demand she conform; in the spirit world she must survive the trials she faces as the queen of the fairies tries to prevent her rescuing Tam Lin

International Lesbian Day: GIF/Audio or description of a favorite lesbian character
Most of my characters are LGBTQ+ but not in my current WIP. I'm working on a novelisation of #TamLin a 16th century Scottish folk ballad. As you can appreciate there were few out characters during that period so instead let me wish you a blessed #InternationalLesbianDay & this...

The tomatoes have decided Day of the Triffids was too tame a story for them. I've had two weeks away from home and they've taken over. 🍅
Can't wait to have lots of tomato salads and make massive batches of tomato sauce for pasta bolgnaise, lasagne and make some tomato soup.
Perspiration Versus Inspiration
To write successfully, all you have to do is get words on the page, right? Nope, sorry that's wrong. If only writing was as simple as coming up with a great idea and then typing it out. You can do that, if you wish. But plot holes, weak characterisation, plotting meanders, unbalanced tension and grammatical errors will more than likely plague your writing.

Writing Style Guides
The Internet is an international stage, with countries from every nation in the world sharing ideas, experience and knowledge. The problem is that there are a not inconsiderable number of people whose confidence exceeds their knowledge. Wisdom has been chasing them, but they were always faster. I'm not talking about willful ignorance, but a complete lack of understanding that the norms and standards of grammar, spelling and style are not the same…

For context it followed this post criticising lazy fantasy maps.
Context matters
There are numerous apps you can use to create a unique map of your fantasy world. If like me, you can't even draw a house without it looking Dali-esque then use them. But if you're going to include maps - and you should - at least put some damn effort into it
I was genuinely surprised how easily offended people were by the op. Its not being serious. Guys, no one is actually suggesting that cartography and Fantasy novel writing are required overlapping skills
Someone in my neighbourhood is attempting, with no discernible improvement, to learn to play the drums
Buddy, it's summer, a heatwave, and every house has every window open. Learn to play in a soundproof room
I just want to #write without suffering from heat suffocation
Reading Challenge 2025
Every year, since 2011, I've taken part in the Good Reads Reading Challenge. To be fair, it 's more of a 'hey, lets set a goal', than 'hey, it's a challenge to be conquered', as the only participant whose results I'm interested in are my own. After all reading, like writing, is meant to be a pleasure, not a chore.
