Today, @jukras from ZHAW Digital Discourse Lab is presenting research on language usage, artificial intelligence, & architectural discourse at the "AI - Architectural Intelligence" conference, organized by Andri Gerber & Michael Mieskes from ZHAW Institute of Constructive Design.

Julia will showcase the significance of language analysis in understanding crucial architectural concepts, such as space and aesthetics, despite the visual nature of architecture.๐Ÿš€ ๐Ÿ’ก

In our new project, "Monitoring Vaccination Discourse," we're delving deep into Switzerland's public discourse on vaccines.๐Ÿ”Ž

The first phase of our project focuses on charting the landscape of vaccination discourse in the German-speaking part of Switzerland from 2000 to 2025. We're pinpointing relevant actors โ€“ journalists, politicians, public health experts โ€“ and online platforms frequented by the public.

For , we are implementing a dedicated browser-based analysis platform on Swiss-AL called the "workbench". This workbench will offer access to Swiss-AL and include analysis functions that are important for researchers in various applied fields, such as the social sciences, health sciences, law, and architecture.
To improve , the platform will allow researchers to access their data in a way that enables a wide range of linguistic analyses to be performed directly on it.

To simplify the analysis process for our users in the new Swiss-AL Workbench and enable them to easily access and use their results with other tools, we aim to enhance the Workbench's as part of our project . We will ensure that users can download their analysis results in standard file formats (e.g., CSV), and detailed metadata will be provided to describe them. This will make Swiss-AL more user-friendly.

In CHORD, our goal is to improve the of Swiss-AL, especially for researchers from applied disciplines who are interested in language data. To achieve this, Swiss-AL requires query tools.

Depositing Swiss-AL in a repository alone isn't practical as it restricts the user base. A workbench will cater to the target audience's needs and include a range of analysis functions, documentation, and learning materials.

To improve the of Swiss-AL, we aim to have Swiss-AL listed in repositories & databases researchers use to find research data. E.g., we are in exchange with SWISSUbase, specifically LaRS, a Swiss language data repository allowing us to describe data systematically. Additionally, we are working on making Swiss-AL findable in the European CLARIN community's search tools. This involves describing Swiss-AL according to existing metadata standards.

๐Ÿš€The Digital Discourse Lab is launching a new project:
Vaccine hesitancy is a major threat to global health. The way people talk about vaccines can influence individuals' decisions about getting vaccinated. To counter vaccine hesitancy, it is crucial to understand how the topic is discussed in politics, media, and public health and how laypeople position themselves in this regard.
Therefore, we have initiated a new project called "Monitoring Vaccination Discourse", funded by the @snsf_ch

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ’ป We're advancing Swiss-AL with (NA) to pinpoint key communicators and map their influence in discourse.

๐Ÿ’ก This will identify key figures and their roles, enhancing understanding of how information is shared in communication networks.

๐Ÿš€NA could open doors to interdisciplinary analyses, merging the expertise of social scientists & data analysts. However, it also carries its challenges. Named Entity Recognition becomes crucial, as does the need to provide more metadata for NA.

The challenges of working with multilingual corpora can be manifold. Here are some helpful tips to deal with them:

- Identify your point of comparison beforehand
- Find discursive-functional equivalent search terms
- Compare data from selected languages by looking at collocations or keywords & note similarities & differences
- Be creative & try different tools
- Visit comparative-discourse-studies. for inspiration & research methods
