So, I “built” a 20m vertical ground plane antenna out of some wire and a 1:1 balun to finally get on 20.

I’m addicted.

My very first QSO on HF was 1,200 miles to Ontario from Texas!!! After that, I talked to Arizona, South Carolina, and New York. All with 40 watts on a DIY antenna strung up in a tree.

With conditions as they are today, that is a very good result!

One thing I'd recommend, is to be sure to log your contacts. I was lazy about it when I started, and now regret it as you need records for awards like Worked All States.

Preliminary #hamradio Announcement:

Balloon 70cm SSTV experiment on June 25 in Weinheim with special call DF70UKW

On June 25, we will, weather permitting, launch a weather balloon in Weinheim @DL0WH carrying student-built payloads.

Apart from LoRaWAN-experiments, we will test our prototype of an SSTV module transmitting live pictures on 70cm FM. We will announce the QRG(s) and SSTV Mode!
