The London commute today was brutal - 45 mins late arriving and 2 hours late home. Feeling sorry for those still trying to get to their destinations ☹️

@cjk What about a Star Labs Starfighter?

@benny Yes I would expect it will work but like Mint it's not the lightest. If you want something smaller and lighter maybe Bodhi Linux? In any case you can make a bootable USB and try these.

@benny Pop_OS! if you fancy trying the Cosmic desktop. It's also Ubuntu based.

@iamwaseem @mustlane I'd sell it, you could get a tablet for watching movies and still have money left over. I have a cheap Lenovo android tablet for movies and YouTube stuff.

Why do long-ass pipes give me such ridiculous pleasure?

read -p "Target (url): " targ && read -p "Keyword: " kw &&
printf "\n\n" && curl $targ -o outfile_temp &&
printf "\n results: \n\n" &&
grep '(?s)ccItems:\K\{\"en\"\:\[.*?\}\]\}' outfile_temp -Poz | jq -c '.en[] | {Begin,Content} ' | tr "{|}" "\ " | tr ",|\"" " " | grep -i $kw && printf "\n"

Use `sudo !!` to repeat your last command with root privileges. Try `cd $(dirname !!)` to change to the directory of the last command's target. Saves retyping long commands.

@anon_4601 It's Nvidia I am unsure about. Things have improved but with AMD cards you generally don't even have to think about video drivers under

Today I found out about Falldaemon EngPlayer for playing and scheduling recordings of IPTV streams. 2 minutes to install off the Cosmic Store, paste in an M3U and it's running

@jaspreetlall Happy to say there is no Windows here either, and my current mini PC is 6 years old and has never had Windows on it. Work makes me use W11 via Citrix remote desktop but they've done a fair job of making it look like W10 and there are no ads in the Start menu either. Just stupid CoPilot appearing now though. Citrix Workspace for Linux is good enough.

Microsoft is using AI to replace all their C/C++ code with Rust by 2030. Is that actually possible? What could go wrong? Microsoft’s strategy relies on a new "North Star" metric: 1 engineer, 1 month, 1 million lines of code. 😱

linkedin.com/posts/galenh_prin

Rust is good, but this approach seems incredibly difficult. Given the risk of AI hallucinations, aiming for a million lines of code per developer feels like an 'Apollo-program' level of difficulty and an excessive task 😱

A screenshot of a LinkedIn post by Galen Hunt, a Microsoft employee. The post details a goal to eliminate every line of C and C++ from Microsoft by 2030 by using AI and algorithmic infrastructure to translate large codebases into Rust at a scale of "1 engineer, 1 month, 1 million lines of code."

RE: mastodon.social/@nixCraft/1157

this is going to destroy so many systems built on MSWindows that if you are a CTO and not making contingencies to freeze further development on that OS & chart a path to migrate out to , then why are you even in that job.

Microsoft is gonna use an autocorrect on amphetamines to rewrite their O/S? this is absolute madness.

may they go down in flames but not before y’all moved out of their poisoned ecosystem.

Why does not appeal to me? I've used Mint, Arcolinux, MaBox/Manjaro, Debian and Pop_OS! on my main PC that's used for work, running VMs and is also a media server. Also use RHEL at work all day.
Should I give it another try?
