Over the past weeks we have been looking at bike sharing systems around the world and checking how the cycling routes between them score.

The current top three of cities:

πŸ₯‡1.7 ➑ Helsinki: anyways.eu/map/model/baec2096-
πŸ₯ˆ1.4 ➑ Antwerp with Velo: anyways.eu/map/model/e5ae22d8-

One day late to start #30daymapchallenge but one of these was generated by accident today out of pgadmin @anyways so I decided to participate after all.

This is a map with randomly generated population samples. We generate one location per person across the planet. We use #worldpop and as always #openstreetmap as a mask to distribute the samples.

Three maps, one in Antwerp, Belgium (the city hosting @sotmeu next week), the other in Ha Noi, Viet Nam and the other Vancouver, Canada.

πŸ—Ί πŸ—Ί πŸ—Ί Catching up with everyone else doing #30daymapchallenge today means making two maps today, this time #lines. πŸ—Ί πŸ—Ί πŸ—Ί

I used the raw data from the #bikedataproject to visualize the coverage in a few locations. The background map is the #maptiler satellite layer with boundaries and names from #openstreetmap.

These maps show the recorded GPS tracks in the database in Stockholm, Belgium, Central Europe and Sao Paulo.

And #30daymapchallenge #day3 ⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️

I made a map of the ANYWAYS #bicycle #safety scores per country.

We are working on a global version of this map for Flanders anyways.eu/map/?#9.74/51.1475/ and I used that data to create this map. I downloaded all schools from postgis, added a country polygon layer and averaged out safety scores on the country level.

I created a gradient to reflect the same colors as on the map for Flanders to give a color to each country. More yellow is better, black is worse.

#30DayMapChallenge - Asia!

I explored the @anyways cycling to school map again and queried our postgis database to find one of the best scoring schools in Asia. I ended up with a school in Japan!

I had no idea if our scoring mechanism would make any sense in Japan but looking at Mapillary it seems so. There is cycling infra including separated cycle lanes!

The map shows the school in Yellow, meaning a good score and the predicted routes to the school.

#30daymapchallenge day 7! A map for navigation 🚴🏻 🚴🏻 🚴🏻

At @anyways we have only one map that is meant for navigation and that is our cycle map.

We added styling for cycle paths, cycle lanes and cyclestreets. We added bicycle parking, bicycle pumps and shops. There are also cycle highways and the node network for the city of Ghent!

We have also add the same map to all our @anyways tools for those with a focus on 🚴🏻 🚴🏻 🚴🏻

A live version here: fietsrouteplanner.org/#map=15. => also includes route planning!

We made another map with ANYWAYS πŸŽ‰

We created one big map with *all* schools in Flanders, Belgium with a #safety score per school and for each street that is potentially used to cycle to school.

Look at the map and the data here: anyways.eu/map/?#13.33/51.2115

You can select individual schools like this one in Wechelderzande: anyways.eu/map/?location=41322

Or select a street and see all the routes for students cycling there: anyways.eu/map/?segment=335327
