Getting today’s #NaPoWriMo effort written and posted early—read these as song lyrics rather than any other type of poetry. The content isn’t reflective of my mood or any real-life inspiration (save perhaps the very first line), so no worries there. :)

So uh... wow. I'm still digesting this. But it's now official, so I guess I'm gonna blast it:

(And I found out by checking my email during the 5 minute break in the 90 minute class I was teaching and I started involuntarily doing a stupid mom dance in front of the class)

Averted Vision

There are times in the darkness,
when fuzzy signals from my stimulus-starved brain
coalesce to momentary patterns
and commandeer my sight
before collapsing into static.

Sometimes what I’m looking for
in those times
is shining, faint but true,
just waiting for me to stop staring at it
and use the rest of my eye
to take it in.
