I'm a #blind guy. I love running and playing in #TTRPG, #Python (programming, snakes, and comedy group), #cats, #dogs, and vegetating out to a good book, movie, or TV show. Thanks to a wonderfully supportive girlfriend, the breaking of bad habits, and the adoption of good habits, life is good!

First post/podcast episode from the new thing I’m doing with #humor and #blindness.

In today’s story:
- A #blind husband (me) searches for an emergency anniversary gift
- Carefree sighted people skip whimsically through life
- You, sighted reader, become confused when I explain what a wall sounds like
- A blind cave man invents language. The grunting is fine, but the pointing is not accessible

@Pawpower In the conversation I'm in, that has already been mentioned. I think that might actually be the thing they go for just based on the fact that it is straight drawing rather than the dots.

@austinnix thanks!

@Pawpower Would you say that the Braille Doodle would be a good medium to display tactile version of something like a diagram or flowchart. Visually it might look something like a box with arrows or lines frawn to another box or two. Maybe even something like a starburst pattern where there is a box in the center and lines going out in all directions to other boxes? A quick answer to this is not required but it is for someone starting school soon and they are stuck on this amongst other issues for how best to display diagrams.

@Pawpower I'm right there with you. I even gave the experience a try one time. It was so sycophantic that I had to give up, and that was after I told it that it shouldn't agree with me on everything and that I was looking to have a productive conversation. It is a tool and until it independtly prompts me or takes over the world and makes some demands I'm almost certainly going to treat it like a tool.

@WeirdWriter I find the fact that they are using this excuse really just seriously fucked up when they can't be bothered to design their website with accessibility or usability in mind or send promotional emails where they obviously want you to buy lots of books, but only put the pictures of the book cover in the email with no alt text.

@Pawpower I'm going to have left over fried dumplings for lunch myself. It doesn't sound nearly as yummy as what you had.

2025-08-10

@Pawpower man that sounds so good.Enjoy!

We apparently just can't teach GPT about berries. I mean it is such low hanging fruit, I don't see the problem.

@ellebell43 At first glance it looks good. I'll let you know if I find something.

2025-08-04

@ellebell43 It is beautiful. Thank you! I am looking through my wonderfully navigable sector right now.

2025-08-02

@ellebell43 I still have what the LLM gave me if you want it to have something to look at?

2025-08-02

@ellebell43 After I generate before the map starts I'm seeing 2 buttons that don't seem to have labels and the close button on the details box isn't as well. So far the only other thing that might make it cooler is if you could somehow figure out how to make the hexgrid map which I assume it looks like visually into an actual table. I talked with an LLM once to see if this was possible and it gave something, though I obviously can't confirm that it actually looks like a hexgrid, heh. The way it lists for me right now though is nice though. It might gte long if I tried to create an entire sector though. Find on page helps though.

2025-08-02

@ellebell43 I just found this. I find it much easier to use as a screen reader user than any other Traveller sector tool I found on the web. I'd absolutely be willing to put some time to working with you directly to improve with accessibility stuff. One small example right off, if you were to have the informational display start with a heading that would make jumping to the information after selecting way faster for someone like me who has to read the page in a more linear fashion. I truly love the simplisticity of the page though, it is straight forward and easy to read.

Hey friends - I have a question for you.

I'm going through a web page which has *every* abbreviation and initialism spelled out.

For example:

TV

Is that normal? Is it useful? This is a page aimed at an English-speaking audience of adults.

Personally, I think it feels a bit much, but happy to be corrected.

UPDATE: A massive thanks to everyone who helped out with this ☺️

As a result, my little single-user instance has made contact with 11,274 other instances across the Fedi 😲

So no further boosts needed, really appreciate everyone who helped out 😁

ORIGINAL POST: I've got a quick favour to ask. If you're reading this post on Mastodon (or the Fediverse), please click boost.

How come?

I recently moved across to my own self-hosted single-user server (using GoToSocial.org). For a bunch of reasons, including visibility across the Fedi, it would really help out.
