In a new paper, I simulate the consequences of combining survey data without proper harmonization techniques.
I demonstrate that there is a plausible risk of biased correlative analyses based on the integrated data, if we do not harmonize measurement units across different survey sources and instruments first.

Ich hab mich mal ad hoc mit einem pseudonymen Google-Konto bei TikTok neu angemeldet. Der Algorithmus kannte mich also noch nicht. Zu den ersten Videos, die der mir gleich nach dem Aufschlagen dort angeboten hat, waren:
* Ich bin trotz aller Warnungen nach Russland ausgewandert und das ist echt toll da jetzt, nicht mehr wie früher, als die Mafia regierte.
* Die 10 Städte in Rheinland-Pfalz mit den meisten Türken.
* AFD zerlegt klimareligiösen Linksradikalen der behauptet Deutschland ist an allem schuld (gemeint war ein junger Mann aus dem Publikum der Wahlarena-Sendung).
* Eine freudenstrahlende Alice Weidel nach der Wahl.
* Ein Blick auf die Türklingeltafel eines großen Wohnhauses in Frankfurt, mit lauter Namen, so der Sprecher, die klingen wie Cevapcici.
* AfD 16% wundern einen jungen Mann gar nicht, weil seit Jahren alles teurer wird.
* Annalena Baerbock habe letztes Jahr 135.000 Euro für Makeup ausgegeben - auf Steuerzahlerkosten.
* Junge Deutschtürken, die zugeben, schon mal kriminell gewesen zu sein.
Und so geht das in einer Tour weiter. Und nun stelle man sich Leute, die sich so ein Programm jeden Tag stundenlang am Handy reinziehen, in einer Wahlkabine vor.

Mainstream parties frequently attempt to recapture the support of right-wing voters by adopting more anti-immigration and nativist positions. While this strategy is often a public topic, the study conducted by Antonia C. May (GESIS) and Christian S. Czymara (Tel Aviv Uni) suggests that it is likely to backfire. Rather than reclaiming swing voters who previously supported far-right ideologies, this approach seems to further strengthen the support for far-right parties.
