Thinking about this a lot lately. So much turnover, even at really good schools.

Anyone seeing innovative approaches to teacher retention?

After reading this https://www.freetech4teachers.com/2023/06/1001-american-novels-mapped.html post from Richard Byrne, I found Maps Mania - https://googlemapsmania.blogspot.com/ . I'm hoping to get teachers on board with more use of #ArcGIS for 23-24. Set up our school domain pre-pandemic. #edtech #edutooter
TimeGuessr is a fun diversion. Guess where and when a photo is from.

Heard this today on NPR https://www.marketplace.org/shows/marketplace-tech/ai-is-already-taking-jobs-from-some-voice-actors/ and learning about Soundstorm from Google - https://google-research.github.io/seanet/soundstorm/examples/ Wondering about what this might mean for education . So many tools do text to speech, and now the speech sounds so realistic! #AI #edtech #edutooter
A trick to drawing a realistic animal is to use a photo as a guide. Cover with shapes and then delete the photo.

Turn it in has a checkered history and in many ways is the model of surveillance, carceral, intellectual property stealing capitalistic technology.
I am really saddened that we see far less conversation about trusting students, knowing students, and creating student worthy tasks that would largely eliminate the desire or need for these technologies that do virtually nothing to improve student learning.
Laptop roll-in for my middle schoolers today. Time to send their Lenis (Lenovo laptops) to summer camp for a much-needed refurbish. Expecting some separation anxiety, but less tech over summer is a good thing for many. (+ We accommodate families with need.) #edtech #edutooter
Noticed at my daughter's Cum Laude induction that only 3 of the 20+ kids were boys. Lots to consider, but there are specific areas with gender disparity (like CS & engineering), as well as disparity for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ folks. Lots of work remains for true representation. https://www.edsurge.com/news/2023-05-23-in-school-girls-rule-where-does-that-leave-boys
Playing with TinyStorie - https://tinystorie.com/ and came up with this. Love the potential of this AI tool to make personalized stories. Images could be better, but that could be another project!

After much sewing and gluing, Squishy Icosahedron has been assembled and stuffed. Pixel mapping is (painful and) underway, and I plan to generate orientation responsive LED animations when that's done.

@troypatterson I hadn't thought of using an older school device. It looks like users need a live phone line to set it up for themselves. We can do it for them, but then we need to put them in a group where 2factor is forced and get backup codes. Our director is trying to avoid physical keys, but that might be our best bet. Thanks!
Looking for suggestions... What's the best way to enable 2-factor authentication for a Google Workspace account when a teacher doesn't have a cell phone? (Other than using my phone)
@carlynorama If it's a priority, you make the time and the effort, right?
What would be an appropriate response to an administrator who says that a school's utilization of technology in classrooms is pedestrian, but they don't have time to provide training, professional development, or even discussion or sharing time at faculty meetings?
Anyone in the #ITeachPhysics crowd know of a good algebra-based (or bio-focused) physics course that can be taken online? Particularly in summer or winter terms? Thanks in advance! #EduToot
Heading to #ATLIS23 - hoping to learn and connect with other #independentschool #edtech folks #edutooter
Looking forward to the #ATLIS23 conference next week. While I've had lots of online connections with #edtech folks over the past few years, I'm really looking forward to seeing peers for in-person learning and collaboration! #edutooter
