The network technology giant Cisco offers to turn Wi-Fi access points installed in offices and other buildings into a system that tracks the location of employees, customers, smartphones, laptops and other devices for a wide range of purposes

Two tools to help #workers negotiate for stronger #datarights. Use the data lifecycle at work (available here thewhynotlab.com/services/tool scroll down a bit) to map your demands. And if you are in πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦ or πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί get to know your legal rights here: workersdatarights.org

Question to all: I see some companies claim that they have built secure #LLM on top of #chatgpt4 that prevent data sharing back to OpenAI. Is this really possible?

For example this Danish bank and their Danske GPT danskebank.com/da/news-og-insi

@PearlescentFerret thanks! Made a weekend schedule now and hope that does the trick.

Question to #android folks. Is there an easy way to turn off all #notifications at a press of a button. For example a weekend or holiday function?

2/2 With no #transparency, the potential for #exploitation is real. With no transparency there can be no meaningful engagement with those who are subjects of these systems. Seems like Canadian public services and the federal government needs to revisit and rethink their commitment to the principles they have signed.

1/2 During my speech today for the Canadian #tradeunion for finance specialists ACFO-ACAF, I asked the 500+ participants (most of whom are working in the #publicsector) whether their employer provided them with information about the #digitaltechnologies they are deploying.

Nobody raised their hand. Not one.

#Transparency is key. Canada is a leading force in GPAI, who again has signed the OECD.AI principles. Transparency is here one of the key principles. lnkd.in/eHA8ecHr

Off to Edinburgh to an event on #workersdata and how workers responsibly can collect and use #data in their #campaigning and organising.

We will be looking at good examples, what does it take, how should the data be stewarded, how can these projects scale? What is needed in relation to funding, access to expertise and much more.

Heading now to my old home London πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§.

Going to be presenting an overview of the #digitalisation of #publicservices and jobs in said across the world. It's a warm up to the launch of my report for the #TUC that on the basis of the last 10-15 years of public service digitalisation proposes national policy recommendations and #collectivebargaining ditto for UK #tradeunions.

Tunisian President Kais Saied has expelled @EstherLynch's @etuc_ces because she demonstrated against attacks on trade union rights and expressed support for the Tunisian trade union movement that just a few years ago received the #NobelPeacePrize together with the employers and the government #dkpol #eupol 😑

@b_cavello That's true. If it's a human who is using these tools than that is human art. Just as the harp is to harpist, the brush to the painter. But my point has to do with automated art

2023-02-18

2/2 In my part of the world, and probably in yours too, our societies have financially and culturally failed the arts for generations. Let's pump our money into the local #theater, the dance schools, the painters, the musicians and #tax the bleep out of all the companies whose AI is sucking #natural #resources out of our earth to fuel their computer power and the huge servers required to fake the hell out of culture.

2023-02-18

1/2 I don't want #computer generated #art. I don't want a computer modeling of human emotion. I want the artist's, musician's, performer's, dancer's, author's raw and real emotion that provokes, teases, angers, touches me. And then I want us - more if not all of us - to see, feel, hear, experience it together.

Asking for help! Can someone tell me what obligations #employers will have in the current draft of the #euaiact? Is it still #selfregulation or have amendments been tabled? All info appreciated.

@q_observations @mikarv @lilianedwards Very useful. Thank you

#GDPR question. Is a controller obliged to disclose the identity of a third party who is processing a data subject's data? For example the company name? Ping @mikarv @lilianedwards

❓How reflective or not is #chatgpt of different cultural perspectives/interpretations ?

What competencies do #publicservices need to deploy #digitaltechnologies responsibly, transparently, fairly and in a way that empowers public service employees and the public alike?

Read this short post on The Why Not Lab's "competence wheel". Designed for and in cooperation with a municipality.
