@mr_daemon Heh. I find myself building almost the same screen this morning, but for CI test results.

@neil Thank you Neil, for the work you do, the groups you support, and for publishing so much of your work where many others may benefit.

FOSS is about more than just code, and you obviously get that.

Over the coming weeks, I'm talking at events about the adverse impacts of the #OnlineSafetyAct.

I don't know exactly what I'll be asked, so I've written some notes. I won't use all of them, but it is helpful for me to get some thoughts down in writing.

And why not share them? Thoughts welcome, but these are my notes :)

With new COVID-19 variants looming and renewed attacks on vaccines, masks, and other basic preventative measures, I just want to mention that:

- I still routinely mask up in crowded or poorly ventilated spaces. I mask on planes and trains. I teach with my mask on.

- I test any time I'm feeling under the weather.

- I plan to get the updated vaccine.

I'd *prefer* not to do any of this, but at worst, it's in the "mild inconvenience" category, and far preferable to long-term disability.

According to Wikipedia:

"A cartel is an organization formed by producers to limit competition and increase prices by creating artificial shortages through low production quotas, stockpiling, and marketing quotas."

IPv4 is an artificial shortage. It's just a number, and we have had a fix for it for a quarter century now: #IPv6

Companies (like Amazon and Microsoft's Github) that provide IPv4 only services are the cartel that is preventing our Internet from evolving.

"Suppose you do. Wouldn't you rather introduce a little comedy into your household than subject it to a tragedy?"

@holsta This is why we need legislation, sadly. Both in terms of router freedom (required, I believe, in the EU) and IPv6.

As a tech-savvy user you always have tunnels, but you shouldn't have to resort to that.

@holsta They don't sound like a company to stick with. Is there no one else serving your area?

@goetz @ripencc An excellent reason not to rely on broken 3rd parties. Many members have been raising the issue of dependence and sovereignty too.

@necrophcodr The Czech Republic is switching off IPv4 for govt services in 2032 konecipv4.cz/en/

Belorussia made it compulsory for ISPs to provide IPv6 5 years ago.

RIPE is in a position to send a message, as its membership has no excuse for not having IPv6 available for internal use. It should be a condition of membership, as not doing so is harming members.

The EU could legislate that all Internet services MUST have IPv6. That would be better than cookie laws.

@necrophcodr An ISP that doesn't provide IPv6 in 2025 is not, in fact, an ISP.

I'm pushing for #RIPE to go #IPv6 only for the API and control panel, and surprise there are folks saying they don't have IPv6.

These are "professional" network operators. 🤦‍♂️

Companies like @aaisp have been providing IPv6 connections in the UK for over 20 years now.

Let's set a date and switch this legacy stuff off. It's holding us back.

Quite simply, lots and lots of things are not being reported or said because people are afraid to say them."

OK. This is starting to look serious. Three tugs now (Amron is still at the pub).

It also seems someone has updated the photo for NCL Salten to reflect its new status as a pier.

Screenshot of the VesselFinder website showing NCL Salten is still beached and now has two tugs and another boat alongside. The profile picture for the website has now been updated to a photo of beached vessel.

@pat_dev @timbray "Worktree.ca is hosted in datacentres on Canadian soil by a Canadian company."

Hmm. "Amazon Data Services Canada" might not quite be what people are expecting when they read that sentence.
