I am moving my account to @dmcblue@social.dmcblue.com . I can't figure out how to do the follower forwarding from mastodon to gotosocial so if you want to follow me, also add me there.

been back on mastodon for like a week and the inter-server drama already seems to be in high gear

If Twitter goes bankrupt, will they be giving away free servers? Maybe some of those good office chairs?
Forgot to buy maple syrup for like the eighth grocery trip in a row. I'd be the worst hunter gatherer. Stuff literally grow on trees.
How bad of an idea is it to run a mastodon/plemora instance just for yourself?
Twitter as the Tower of Babel
I think the mechanics of CW on Mastodon (as opposed to other platforms) causes people to place the burden of filtering the TL on others, rather than empowering users to filter their own TL.
This, along with the semi-local nature of servers (particularly the existence of the local TL), I think encourages a 'gated-community' mentality, which manifests in the racist policing of POC you see on some servers.
The current setup encourages blaming people for existing 'inconveniently' on your timeline.
Its almost like we were never meant to have a hyper-connected global experience that causes entire industries to exist in a digital space, wiping out all the basic workings of local economies, particularly for knowledge industries.
One thing I like about Tumblr is that tags are a separate field. One can filter/hide/manage content that hits your feed based solely on this field. That way what needs to be hidden for you is for you, and doesn't have to be a dependent on everyone following the most limited set of acceptable content. And people are more likely to add tags when its separate.
I'm concerned that I keep seeing Black people say that they've found Mastodon worse than Twitter for white supremacy. Being white, I don't have this directed at me personally, but it seems that a lot of moderation is aimed at enforcing civility rather than preventing racism. Is the Fediverse creating a classic 'white liberal' space where all ideas are allowed as long as they are expressed politely, no matter that that makes it unwelcoming to minorities?
Read this one the other day and it makes me think a lot about online interactions:
"O Son of Dust!
Verily I say unto thee: Of all men the most negligent is he that disputeth idly and seeketh to advance himself over his brother. Say: O brethren! Let deeds, not words, be your adorning."

Home office cold? Try running some #BOINC projects on all those computers you've got sitting around.
Reading #Mastodon with the CLI on #Windows11 running #Ubuntu under WSL!
What happens when you have your own Mastodon instance (just for you) where over 21,000 people follow you and when you’re following over 4,300 people?
You end up paying ~€50/month for Mastodon hosting 👀
It also opens up interesting questions: what happens when a popular account joins your instance (hint: it will probably cost the instance maintainers quite a bit… I don’t envy the mastodon.nu folks right now).
I can how much older I'm getting based on my interest in the 10-day weather forecast.
