There are so many berries this season!! This is just a bit of harvest for I am having for breakfast. I wonder… where are all the birds..? Only loud magpies eating the cherries before they are ripe.. as they do every year.

I don’t really studied orchids. I have one at home. This one just never blooms, but I have it since I was 18, so I am attached to it anyway. But now…. it’s in bloom!! And soooo beautiful! 😍

Lovely afternoon at Dat Bolwerck yesterday, visiting with a group from our community center Waterkracht. We were offered a very special encounter with the artworks, guided by Annemijn Rijk. Thanks Marlise and Dat Bolwerck for this precious meeting!

Look at this gorgeous, messy garden 😍 It’s looseleaf lettuce on the left with three coloure of chard which I harvast as babyleafs for salad. On the right there is the chives in bloom. I use the flowers in a herb butter with a bit of salt. Behind the chard there’s a big cornflower about to bloom, one of my favourite flowers and… these are from last year’s seeds! A tiny bit of orange is one of the first marigolds (goudsbloem). All the way in the back you see the snow pea that’s been giving us such delicious peas. On the right the strawberries, one of five small strawberry patches I made in the garden. Hiding on the left is a tiny tuscan kale (palmkool), that I spread around the garden. And in the front some small bean plants that will provide us with fresh green beans when the snow peas are gone.

Looking at a little spot like this makes me so happy. And this is just one tiny bit of the garden…

Finalised the stop motion this week, with a first screening at movietheater Focus yesterday. I want to spend more time creating a soundscape, and perhaps next year elaborate some more on the film, but I am really happy with it as it is now. It’s a plotless stop motion as part of my artistic research. (No video option here on Pixedfed, so I’ll share via vimeo or something when I am ready ☺️)

Eating from the garden, I LOVE it! I had forgotten though how much time it costs to harvest and clean the foods. Need to calculate that into my ‘gardening time’… Also, watering the plants with the current drought is really needed, so that too takes time.

Deciding earlier this year that I would go to the garden each week no matter what, created a situation where it is no longer the question IF I want to go. That decision is already made. The only thing I have to think about is when, and as I have decided that sunday afternoon is my gardening moment, all I have to think of anymore is ‘if I can’t go on sunday afternoon, when will I go instead?’ Because I am attending the anti-genocide demo at The Hague tomorrow, I went this morning. This way of working really helped me stay connected and commited to the garden. 🌿💚
