How on Earth have I had Linux as my primary OS since 2001 and I'm only just finding out about beets now?! https://beets.io/

It seems #Apple is helpfully censoring your music collection now.
I have a carefully organised and saved (not always downloaded) Apple Music Library, but listening to Hypnotize by System of a Down I noticed “asshole” was being censored 🙃
The normal version of the album has been totally removed from the Apple Music catalogue, which also seems to have completely broken the iPhone's synced library so much the song titles are missing.
We're back to physical media or piracy having the best UX.
I didn’t plan to write about Wayland yet. But Xorg is dying — not eventually, but now. GNOME’s dropping X11 support. RHEL already removed it. Ubuntu and Fedora are next. And if you rely on accessibility, you don’t get to wait this one out.
So here’s Post 4 of I Want to Love Linux. It Doesn’t Love Me Back.
I’m using Wayland now. Primarily. Not because I love it. Because the fallback is disappearing, and I want to be there helping fix what comes next. GNOME with Orca actually works. KDE and COSMIC are making progress. I’ve talked to the people involved. They care.
But a lot is broken.
MATE — the desktop most blind users preferred — isn’t on Wayland.
ocrdesktop doesn’t work. xdotool is gone.
wlroots compositors still don’t reliably support Orca’s keybindings, especially on laptops.
This isn’t GNOME’s fault. They’re the only reason accessibility on Wayland works at all.
But the old excuses are gone. “Just use Xorg” isn’t going to be an option much longer.
So yeah. I’m a Wayland shill now. Because I’m using it. Because I have to.
And I want to make sure we’re not excluded from what comes next.

@purinkle @thoughtbot Have a bloody good time sir. Sad I can't make it this year.
I just found out that `movew -r` in tmux re-orders windows. As someone who opens and closes a lot of ephemeral tmux windows this is heckin useful.
When people talk about "survival of the fittest" or "the crime of empathy," I want clips like this to be pressed into the sides of those people's self-serving dumbfuck heads until they cave in.
RSS never tracked you.
Email never throttled you.
Blogs never begged for dopamine.
The old web wasn’t perfect.
But it was yours.
Listening to eyehategod on headphones while walking through the departure lounge at Heathrow is one of the most misanthropic experiences.
I will forever be haunted by this footage. Trawling has only been filmed underwater a few times in documentary history, and never with such clarity. What’s so heart-rending about these shots is watching how the animals don’t just get swept up — they swim for their lives. 🌎🦑🧪
Lovely metaphor from @avdi.

I moved hosting for Ethical Book Search (https://www.ethicalbooksearch.com/) to Hetzner's data centers in Germany that are powered by renewable energy. This feels more congruent with my aims.
Fuck. Trakke are closing down! Genuinely upset to see this brand die. My Bannoch backpack is absolutely in the top 5 things I own, and knowing it was made ethically and sustainably, entirely in the UK from materials sourced in the UK was part of that. Really wanted to grab a Bairn messenger bag, but I guess pre-owned is the only way now.
