You noticed how google search became unusably shit a few years ago?
Turns out that was on purpose

The recent court documents showed that Google's internal testing demonstrated that significantly worse search results would not harm their business operations. This apparent immunity to quality concerns stems from the company's dominant market position, which the recent federal court ruling
addressed. "Since Google doesn't have any real competition, it can make the best information hard to find, forcing users to stay on Google for longer and interact with more ads," Papadimitriou said. "This is dangerous for consumers, most of whom think the best results
appear first."
The strategy appears to be working from a business perspective. The study suggests that poor organic search results actually benefit Google's bottom line in two ways: they make paid advertisements more valuable to users seeking accurate information, and they force users to refine their searches multiple
times, exposing them to more advertising in the process.

Microsoft enabled the notorious "Recall" with the last update (for Windows 11 copilot+ enabled pcs only). It's part of the OS and can't be uninstalled. This software stores metadata about EVERYTHING that appears on your screen, including passwords/urls/images/videos/any messages you send or emails etc

To disable this gross spyware, run the following as admin on the command line:

Dism /Online /Disable-Feature
/Featurename:Recall

#Windows #Spyware #Recall #PrivacyAbuse

Read about True Value hardware declaring bankruptcy today: finance.yahoo.com/news/true-va

Which seemed odd to me, as they've been around for long time selling low-priced items.

It took me exactly one search to find perhaps another reason beyond the claimed "the housing market stalled and consumers have become far more picky about discretionary purchases like hardware” for the news:

Historically it was a cooperative owned by retailers, but in 2018 it was purchased by
ACON Investments.

But now, with and both making landfall in Florida within just days of each other, the insurer will almost certainly have to pay out billions of dollars in claims.

Can Citizens stay afloat? "

There is nothing more devastating than a mining boom to Indigenous and wildlife. A mining boom is a biodiversity holocaust.

Since 1970, we have had a 73% collapse in wildlife. Now, we plan to "solve" the CO2 problem with a mining boom. With mining booms come violent victimization rape, assault and robbery of Indigenous people, the annihilation of land, soil, water, air.

Trump would have gotten away with even more in office if he pursued the exact same policies but acted "normal" about it in front of the cameras.

The Project 2025 guys figured this out. Instead of having Bannon as a weird Rasputin figure, just surround Trump with regular GOP operatives. They're all Heritage Foundation freaks but that doesn't matter to Democrats.

The main friction is the GOP base expect Trump to act like an anti-establishment strong man so he can't "play by the rules."

The first is a HEPA-filter equipped blower bulb. I use the Orbit bulb, which I got from B&H for about $25. Any time the sensor is exposed or I change lenses, the last thing I do before closing up the camera is blow off every surface. It's become an automatic habit.

The second is a small, thin, waterproof ultralight picnic blanket/ground cloth, which I put down to give me a clean surface on which to set lenses, etc. Weighs almost nothing. I have the "Odoland" brand from Amazon, about $10.

I'm sure it is just a coincidence that the disability and long-term sickness rates in three nations starting rising at the start of the pandemic and are still rising almost five years later, despite the fact the global health emergency ended.

Data shown is for Spain, the US, and the UK.

Three charts.
In Spain, the percentage of the adult population who have a chronic illness or health issue rose slowly from 2011 to 2020, rising from around 27% to 30%. Since 2020, it rose to roughly 50% and is still rising.
In the US, the Civilian Labor Force with a Disability remained between 5,400 to 6,500 thousands of people for most of the period from 2008 to 2021. Since 2021, it has risen to 8,000 to 8,400 thousands. It may or may not still be rising--further data is necessary to tell.
In the UK, the number of people who are economically inactive due to long-term sickness remained between 2,000 and 2,200 thousands of people before 2020. Since then, it has steadily risen to 2,736 thousands and is still rising.
