The first results from Rosetta had a really high D/H that required 67P to form far away from the Sun. This was confusing! #67P is different from other Jupiter family comets that have lower D/H ratios. It also didn't have a lot of CO and N2 ice, which form at really cold temperatures too.

#Rosetta was an ESA mission to comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko (#67P). It was an amazing international mission with teams from all over Europe and #NASA. Rosetta launched in 2004 rendezvoused with 67P in 2014, and ended by landing on the comet surface in 2016 🧪🔭🧵2/n esa.int/Science_Exploration/Sp

The Institute of Geophysics and Extraterrestrial Physics at the TU #Braunschweig is seeking to fill a three-year researcher position (75% part-time, suitable to work towards obtaining a #PhD degree) in cometary science. The successful applicant will analyse data from #ESA's #Rosetta mission to study the emission and dynamics of decimetre-sized debris from #comet #67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.

in the this morning: Splitting of Long-Period Comet C/2018 F4 (PANSTARRS), by Man-To Hui and co-authors. The comet has two components splitting at a relative speed of 3.00±0.18 m/s. Pre-split nucleus might have consisted of two lobes resembling the ones of 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko.
