The plan for Obsidian is to never grow beyond 10-12 people, never take VC funding, never collect personal data or analytics.
Continue building with the assumption that software is ephemeral, files matter more than apps. Use formats that are open and durable.

Bless Ed Yong:
"Covering long Covid solidified my view that science is not the objective, neutral force it is often misconstrued as. It is instead a human endeavor, relentlessly buffeted by our culture, values and politics. As energy-depleting illnesses that disproportionately affect women, long Covid and M.E./C.F.S. are easily belittled by a sexist society that trivializes women’s pain, and a capitalist one that values people according to their productivity."
For the topics, its seems to be covering quite a broad range of topics
Yes, it does have peer review, with a system identical to F1000 Research . In short :
- open peer review
- reviewer give a "yes", "maybe" or "no" assessement
- if you get 2 "yes" or 1 "yes" and 2 "maybe", your article get indexed on scopus, pubmed, etc
So it looks a lot like a @biorxivpreprint + @PeerCommunityIn combo, in a single platform
Just (re-)discovered the Open Research Europe publishing platform https://open-research-europe.ec.europa.eu/
OA, open review, free for EU-funded research, etc
Anyone have experience with it ?
Exploring the Influence of Phloem Resistance on Root System Architecture

Check our latest preprint, by Juan Baca Cabrera .
Juan collected root hydraulic data from the literature & compiled it into a shared database (https://roothydraulic-properties.shinyapps.io/database).
Juan then analysed the main factors driving changes in root system scale hydraulic conductivity, across different plant functional types. The main ones?
Age, drought, aquaporins & measurement techniques.

Thanks @kaisakajala ! And yes, hard not to be well in these situations ;)
I am over the moon to learned my #ERC-CoG project, DROOGHT, is financed !
Many thanks 🙏 to the European Research Council for enabling me to spend the next 5-years looking at #wheat 🌾 #roots, their #hydraulics and their contribution to more resilient #agroecosystems 🚜 !
Want to know more about the project? We will share all our finding, codes , data with the community (#openscience rules!) as soon as possible! Stay tuned at http://www.drooght.science (nothing there yet, but it will come soon ;))
This is an excellent collection of first-person accounts about research culture from eLIFE, called "Sparks of Change".

Given the current hoopla surrounding "AI" #LLM capabilities and impact on society, this is one of the most timely, and useful, contributions to the study of bullshit since the late Harry Frankfurt's 2005 book. Thanks, @pluralistic !

Biodiversity in residential gardens: a review of the evidence base
https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10531-023-02694-9
A new review confirms that residential gardens significantly contribute to urban biodiversity worldwide. The study also notes that intensive gardening practices, like excessive mowing and pesticide use, can decrease biodiversity. Increasing connectivity between gardens and other green spaces is vital for maintaining diverse ecosystems. 🌳
