@terribletom@ohai.social mahalo for sharing your Hibiscus, I do recognize the Mao Hao Hele or the yellow stamen variety as being an indigenous varietal and somewhat easier to find and identify, it's the red stamen version thats hard to peg. The leaf lobes definitely look distinct from the asian varietals and it would be wonderful if someone somewhere has an actual pic to post. The Kapi'olani Botanical Garden does not have one despite having several hibiscus varietals in it's collection.
@LittleMissFC Aloha nui! 🌈🤙🏼🌺
Aloha terribletom@ohai.social, mahalo for your response. Since you have an understanding of the varietal perhaps it is you who should post what you understand to be the Hawai'i State Flower. Im not a botanist nor am I an expert on Hibiscus, however, identification of an endangered species is important.This Hibiscus was planted as an ornamental, probably disqualifying it as the brackenridgei but it does strongly resemble the images I have seen of the flower, however, that doesn't make it correct.
