@amadeus The moves I make to increase usability is fought by the tech industry. Greater usability means diminished relevance, I'll save the rant about authentication for another time. You popped a balloon and I feel better for it so thanks for listening👍

@amadeus "The killer feature" of Android devices is that it lets you create gmail accounts without having to give google you phone number so that they can lock you out when you have to get a new sim with a new number to tackle nuisance sms callers and scam calls from poor countries. Does anyone curate email into neat folders anymore. I use new gmails as spam filters, I do not want to be pen palls with a company I have ordered sock deliver from. Once delivered I never use that account again.

@amadeus It has been very exiting to be involved as a user in the smartphone revolution but setting up an Android phone so that it might be useful is murder. I have given up and my phones are disruption machines that demand that I give attention to stuff I never asked for. I simply do not have the time to waste. The family has an android tablet which we share to send pings to relatives on snapchat but that is the extent of the "revolution"

@amadeus And since I am grumbling I'll throw in another UI change that "grinds my gears". Firefox have to reintroduce Tabs not on top. Why remove choice from users, it makes no sense. The desktop is a good idea, users like it because it is "scripting" they can do. Nobody remembers folder structures in their head. Any user can manage to make an organize folder structures using the desktop, I think every folder should have a desktop mode, that would be the improvement.

2023-10-11

@amadeus I might have misunderstood. You might not be referring to desktop Gnome which I occasionally try to see how the new guy is getting on. Once we get GNU Linux phones it will come into its own but I am not sure the developers have noticed that Android and Iphones have desktops that the user can ruin with folders and shortcuts.

@RaccoonsHourly That one gets my approval

@amadeus Sorting out what belongs in the swiping UI bucket and what is to be removed and put in the "old so we cant use it bucket" is in committee.

@Leisureguy @dangillmor Being short on time to learn new things might be a factor. Getting intimate with all the settings will take time. I have set up dedicated Firefox profile for mastodon and I have a bookmark folder for mastodon users with sub folders with profiles and this means I can customize my reading experience using a system I am familiar with. I reduce mouse clicking whenever i can and I recommend the Vimium plugin for super-fast browser use. @Leisureguy goes in the "incoming folder"

@Leisureguy @dangillmor That made me laugh "Perhaps they think that things are getting better."

@mattblaze That's a good photo

There is not interference of what posts I see from an algorithm that serve a purpose that is not mine.

This makes mastodon relaxing to use.

I have setup a personal portfolio page at falktx.berlin/portfolio/ in the hopes of finding work (possibly including a full-time position).

If you know of someone or some company looking to hire a embed + full-stack developer with years of experience dealing with real-time audio systems, please DM me and/or share that page with them, thanks!

Boosts appreciated!

@ardour This I need: "and simply drag the grid (lines) to fit the measure and beat onsets"

When you are making up stuff on the go, playing and instrument and singing into a microphone at the same time and recording it, there will be bits in the "sketch" of the song that has a perfect feel. When the lyrics and the "proper" recording is to be made that tempo feel can now be preserved, and that is fantastic.

I sometime feel hard done by "the system". Incompetent operators of a flawed design messing my life up but this gal schools me:

Someone had a poll about mastodon which I partook in and then it hit me - no selfies. I'm sure I can find it if I try but there are no flood of selfies from exotic holidays car purchases or all kinds of shopping activities. There is more look at "that" then look at "me" and that might be why I like it here.

screengrab of hasthag selfies, the punchline is that 0 has used that hashtag and that it is what is different with mastodon. It looks outwards
