So if you want to argue that we need poltiical diversity on campus, that we need to allow “conservative” views, please be clear. Be specific.

By “conservative,” do you mean we need to make sure there’s room for people to argue for market economics? Or low tax rates? Yes, we need room for that. I will fight to make room for that that debate even if I disagree.

Or by “conservative,” do you mean we need to accept white supremacists? Or that it should be OK to tell people they’re going to hell for being queer or whatever? No. Piss off into the sun.

Tell me which one you mean.

I haven't done a post on the weirder side of life in Glasgow for a while, so here's a great, if rather surreal, bit of street art I came across today on Park Drive in the West End of Glasgow.

#glasgow #streetart #kelvingrovepark #banana #glasgowstreetart #keepglasgowweird #glasgowtoday #scotland #humour #scottishhumour #glasgowhumour

A Victorian railing with fleur-de-lis decorations on the top, one of which has been painted to look like a half-peeled banana.

Detox Doodles!

This is a habit of drawing something every time I feel the urge to scroll unnecessarily. It helps stop the bad habit and start a new good habit of sketching daily!

This page is all about opossums, who are absolutely the coolest!

Sketchbook page of brown ink drawings of opossums. Top of thr page has the text OPOSSIUMS and 5/13/25. There sre 12 oppssums. Top left is s screaming opossum joey, to the right is a small joey face, at the top right is a wide mouthed screaming opossum with the text state of the world and an arrow pointing at the opossum. Next row to the left is a small opossum and to its right is a larger drawing of a mama opossum with 5 joeys on her back. At the bottom left is a hanging opossum and to the right is a strutting opossum.

Hank Green on vaccines, the Clean Air Act, smoke detectors, etc.

“The tragedy of prevention goes like this: The most effective way to save lives (prevention) is the least noticeable, which leads us to undervaluing it in our individual choices, in what we celebrate, and in public policy, and that undervaluing of prevention leads to a great deal of needless death and suffering.”

"This is the weird, frustrating, beautiful thing about prevention. When it works, nothing happens. There's no story. There are no first responders, no Hank Beat Measles party, no documentary films. Just a bunch of parents taking their kids to school, who in another world, wouldn't be doing that."

I appreciated Hank's short video:

A bit shocked, but the zipper thing actually worked

#Quilting #InarticulateZip

A small quilt top featuring a giant pair of pieced red lips held closed by an actual silver zipper, shown in full on a design wall. Above and below are several borders that stretch from side to side, made from two alternating peach fabrics set off with red and white striped accents. The area between the two accents is machine embroidered in a fun red font - above reads “They will not quiet us” and below reads “Our voices have power”.The same zipped lips quilt top as in the first photo, only the zipper has been unzipped and the quilt is much longer. Though the top and bottom borders are still visible, a wide center section now shows as well, so that the quilt top resembles an open mouth. Inside the ‘mouth’ are wonkily pieced letters reading “Refuse to be Silent!” The letters are sewn from a pinkish purple fabric and set on a scrappy purplish pink background.

1. Was immediately sucked into Polaris Rising by Jessie Mihalik, to the point that I accidentally got on the wrong bus at my morning transfer!
2. Realized I was on the wrong bus fairly quickly and lucked into a later run of the right bus, heading in the right direction, so was only about 15 minutes late.
3. A long afternoon meeting was canceled, so I was able to keep my head above water for a second day during a jam-packed week.

@ChrisJagged I hear that! Sandwich is much less risky. (Our microwave is at eye level, above our stove. One of these days, I know I'm going to dump a bowl full of hot soup down my front. Thus I will never, ever substitute soup for that last step.)

Love this. In his “I Agree” installation Dima Yarovinsky-Yahel took the content from terms of service statements for companies like Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Tinder and printed them out on A4 paper with a standard font size for legal contracts to demonstrate the length of these agreements.

Alt-Txt: Two people stand before multi-color strips of paper with text on them that stretch down an entire wall and onto the floor. The title of the installation "I Agree" appear in all caps on the wall, too.
