@underdarkGIS A great idea for sure. Maybe consider getting Steve Kim involved too? (aka svg/newgeographer, @newgeographer2 mirror only unfortunately - newer content on their Twitter feed)

So I'll go ahead and throw this out into the world: The QGIS US group is going to get kickstarted shortly. Probably monthly "lunch and learn" type videos that will be short and recorded and tossed on the QGIS US youtube page. Tis the season and we'll probably be dragging osgeo.us along with us. #qgis #qgisus

We finally managed to publish an English version of the volcanic hazard map for

Out of all the map I´ve made at the Icelandic Met Office this series of hazard maps is the biggest one yet in terms of impact, internal discussion, public discussion and weight it bears and all the decision that are made based on it. I see this map all over the internet, TikTok, YouTube thumbnails, Facebook, you name it. There is probably enough material for an extended conference talk just about this map

If you finally found the solution to your coding problem in a deep comment or something after having dozens of tabs open, you should write about it in your own blog.

Really. Describe the problem in your own words and the solution for it, even if the solution seems really obvious now. Doesn’t matter. Give credit and whatever, but use your own words because you will be surprised at how many people will land on it.

Write the blog post you wish you had found.

@thomas_szczurek @klaskarlsson Thanks! I should have known Klas would have a video :-) I'll take a look!

@vaclavstepan thank you for the information and advice, I'll give those methods a go with some other ideas based on data closer to home.

Gaza Strip in maps by BBC: bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-ea
Always nice to see a focus on #GIS and maps. The 3D population density map is particularly interesting and slightly unusual.
I've seen a few instances of similar maps, and would assume it would need something extra on top of usual GIS programs e.g. Blender? Something that could be piped from #qgis?

We will illustrate it with a quantile map in Figure 4:

ax = mx.plot(
    column="PCGDP1940",  # Data to plot
    scheme="Quantiles",  # Classification scheme
    cmap="YlGn",  # Color palette
    legend=True,  # Add legend
    legend_kwds={"fmt": "{:.0f}"},  # Remove decimals in legend
)
ax.set_axis_off();

💦 Water, water everywhere. Humans once venerated water and water beings like this rainbow serpent.

Professor Veronica Strang studies our relationship with water. A fascinating episode of Thinking Allowed, on BBC Sounds.

The entire BBC In Our Time archive browsable by Dewey-Decimal code? Yes please

I made a website to find old episodes of In Our Time to listen to. There are almost a thousand, it’s my starting point for any new topic

Very early, suggestions welcome

@pokateo Greetings from the UK!

Getting map layouts done in QGIS :qgis: and trying to automate as much of the data completion as possible for the rest of the team! Love the flexibility of field expressions in text elements. Geometry generators are pretty cool as well.

Feeling generally 😌

I don't think so unfortunately! Were you looking for an idea of scale? It's maybe a bit smaller than a real cow judging by the photo...

@mappery I stayed in the hotel right next to this cow! Always thought it was a nice bit of street furniture! 🐮
