@andyjennings That sounds like a question for Marketplace.org. They love talking about the US bond market.
I believe the typical buyer of 30 yr Treasuries are pension funds and similar institutions. They have a long term need for which there is no good substitute. As I recall, they were a bit perturbed when President Clinton reduced the debt so much there weren't new issues of 30 year notes for a while.

Basic bee facts every day at 3pm.

# 135

Foraging #bumblebees carry, on average, roughly one quarter of their body weight in pollen and nectar.
Pollen is transported in the pollen sacs/baskets on their hind legs and nectar is stored in the ‘honeystomach’.

This is the 100 year anniversary of humans having an idea of what the heck the sun and all the stars actually are. If you had asked a leading astronomer in 1925 what the sun was, they would say that it's basically the same as Earth, but very hot.

In Cecilia Payne's doctoral thesis she was the first to say, from spectral data, that the sun was overwhelmingly made of hydrogen and helium.

It was later described as "the most brilliant PhD thesis ever written in astronomy".

I thought this was a familiar-to-me tent moth caterpillar (genus Malacosoma) at first glance, but then learned it was something new-to-me: Gnophaela vermiculata, the green lattice moth

#naturalist #NaturePhotography #insects #caterpillar

A closeup photo of two caterpillars eating the leaves of an herbaceous plant. The caterpillars are dark, mostly black with bright yellow spots running down the length of their bodies on the dorsal top and sides. They are covered in fine, spiky hairs clustered around each body segment, and at the base of each cluster are small blue spots. The small blue flowers of the plant can be seen here and there below
