@fleeky i do know about that, but the handle does work very well.

@fleeky well, i should have used hickory or ash for the haft. i don't think walnut has the durability to make a long lasting haft. If nothing else this was good practice and if i break it i get to make another one even better!

I use this old hatchet to split kindling. This was left at my house by one of the many previous tenants. As you can see in the photo, the haft is toast and the head loose. There was dry rot and missing material in the part of the haft seated in the head's socket. I am making a new haft from black walnut. I will clean up the axe head, sharpen it, and may even slightly modify the shape. I love giving old tools a facelift! #toolrestoration #handtools #woodworkingproject #woodworking

Went on a hike with my buddy, Mateo. First partly sunny day after almost two weeks of rain and showers. Found this massive rack of antlers by the creek. Looked like the mountain lion removed the top half of the skull with the entire hide from the buck. Like it peeled a banana. I had to remove the hide from the skull. First time skinning something. Was interesting to do. I had no idea there were so many different membranes. This was a fairly fresh kill. One of many I have found along the creek.

I have had this elm stump for a while now. It checked a lot as it dried so I filled the voids with epoxy resin. I finally figured out what I want to carve this into and sketched that out the other day. This will be my first figure carving. Hopefully, it goes well and I do justice to this fine piece of wood.
