Kindergarten children dropped seeds in the crack of the sidewalk to see what would happen

In a world inundated with technology and digital distractions, it’s easy to lose sight of the simplicity and charm of nature.

A recent guerrilla gardening experiment by kindergarten children reminds us of nature’s resilience and its ability to flourish in the most improbable spaces.

The children did an experiment in guerrilla gardening by dropping seeds into sidewalk cracks and observing the results. At first glance, it might have appeared to be a fruitless endeavor – what could possibly […]

This is definitely not the time to delay or dial back climate policy. The urgency has never been greater.
We are approaching dangerous tipping points, almost 200 scientists warn. 🌊

Inspired by some tech bro saying their algorithm found this writing so awful it couldn't process it. I decided to have a read. It's wonderful. Well written and interesting.

What's more. It made me think about door knobs and handles. Everywhere I've ever lived has had handles. To the point I've always thought lever style door handles were the norm. Door knobs are rare. So rare, that at a friend's house recently. I couldn't work out how to open the front door...

I would call your attention to a significant sequence of events.

1. Trump attacks Harvard.
2. Harvard refuses to fold.
3. Universities around the country start to form a mutual defense pact against Trump.
4. Trump now says that letter to Harvard was never supposed to be sent.

What it does show is that Trump, like bullies everywhere, folds when he faces firm opposition. So we need to put firm opposition in his face at every opportunity.

🧵 THREAD: A federal whistleblower just dropped one of the most disturbing cybersecurity disclosures I’ve ever read.

He's saying DOGE came in, data went out, and Russians started attempting logins with new valid DOGE passwords

Media's coverage wasn't detailed enough so I dug into his testimony:

d LS eRWi)] Trump didn't get more popular. The democrats just got less popular | think people may miss this given how everyone focuses on the percentages, but if you look at the raw numbers: 74 million people voted for trump in 2020. Currently according to AP numbers, in 2024 he's at 70 million eI =EH Meanwhile: 81 million voted for Biden in 2020, while in 2024, that's 66 million for Harris. Trump didn't win because he suddenly got more popular. The democrat voter base just collapsed by roughly 18% | just want to put things out there because the narratives are already starting to form and everyone seems to be focusing on the percentages, and ignoring the raw numbers.

Part of progressive organizing in the new world order is doing it off #X / #Twitter.

Like this but not limited to this.
bylinetimes.com/2024/11/07/x-o

Worth saying because (1) it's still not obvious to many and (2) network effects can overcome other interests.

There's more than one good alternative to X/Twitter for this purpose. But I'm amazed and disappointed to see some think that #Threads is one of them.

Right now every company that imports from China is taking all the cash they can muster, and buying up as much as they can and stuffing it in a warehouse , in anticipation of the tariffs creating accelerated demand for imports

That money would have been used for expansion, raises, bonuses and other operational elements

Because cash is relatively expensive, and it costs money to store inventory , those companies will increase prices as if they had paid the expected higher tariffs.

As last time, all the billionaires and big businesses will get theirs, the rest will get some crumbs, and it will all be paid for with massive amounts of government debt. Already unprecedented wealth and income inequality that creates a lot of the problems working class people have will be exacerbated. But you dumb fucks believe yet again that these are the people that will fix things for you versus the Democrats who actually started making some modicum of progress in these areas over four years with less than zero margin of votes to make it happen through lots of procedural rankling because the Republicans didn't want it to go through. You want Trump to stick tot the elites. The elites funded all this shit and now are being given the keys to the kingdom. You MAGA/Trumpists types are such stupid fucks. #uspoli #ElonMusk #DonaldTrump

Excerpt from the book On Tyranny by Timothy Snyder: do not obey in advance. Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do.

Mastodon is notoriously a difficult place for new users to establish themselves and learn their way around. Now, of all times, it is important for us to throw our doors open and welcome newcomers. Bashing them about transgressions of rules they don't yet understand isn't helpful. Friendly reminders to help them understand may be. And most of all help them find their People. Finding some folks have a very incorrect impression of .

#Elon didn't buy #twitter , he bought the #election and it was worth every penny lost by him while we all laughed at what a loser he was. How do we unplug people from this #TormentNexus of hate? I have no idea.
They even gutted #facebook #groups to help people organize and meetup costs $30/mo. I wondered why all the groups on meetup felt sterile, #corporate or classist . This was done on purpose. We have no tools to easily #organize ourselves. Unsure how we fix any of this. #America is broken and going to kill itself, literally a figuratively. From #degregulation to the fact that cruelty is the point. No EPA or FDA, now we can have all the toxic fillers in our food and the question wont be who's going to let me, but who is going to stop me. So not only is it getting really hard to hold on to your home, they’re also shutting down your kids’ school.
