The opinion I have on @levihildebrand.bsky.social after watching some of his videos are pretty mixed. On the one hand, the topics he picks are pretty great, especially regarding the #society we live in and the #consumerism that's gone extreme, to the point that we're now pretty much monetizing everything and turning anything into a subscription (including our food!!!) and things that we considered normal for the regular folk around 20 years ago have become pretty much a luxury.
On the other hand, the fact that he's putting so much effort into creating content for #corporate #centralized #SocialPlatforms like #YouTube, #Instagram, #Threads etc. exclusively is kinda getting me concerned. Even on #Bluesky (where this entire post will also go bits by bits), it looks like he hasn't posted anything since 10 months ago at the moment of me writing this post. Like, I know that there are only 256 people that are checking your content, but keep in mind that among all these 256 people there are many who resonate with his messages, who want to have a different social media experience, who maybe #self-host in order to get rid of #BigTech, who choose to keep their photos private, outside any service that's monetizing their data and use it for AI training purposes. Maybe some of them do have hobbies, but they keep it offline.
Okay, I saw that he decided to #ditchSpotify in exchange for a personal offline #MusicCollection, but I would still love to be able to see his videos straight here, on #Friendica, via his #PeerTube channel (that currently does not exist).
Levi, if you're still around, and you see this message, please try to spread your message out on #theFediverse and other decentralized platforms (even one not so decentralized such as Bluesky if you do not feel comfortable with anything else just yet) as well. Their very presence does a tremendous good for our societies, giving us an alternative to a world where just a bunch of corporations own our entire capacity to communicate in real time and platform our message to the public. There are plenty of projects, even much more than those involving Bluesky and the AT protocol. I'm writing this from #Friendica, which is a #decentralized #Facebook alternative (with much more features than it), but there are many other projects that can make up for an alternative to just about anything (Pixelfed for #Instagram, Loops for #TikTok, BookWyrm for #Goodreads, Mastodon and PeerTube for #X / #Twitter and #YouTube respectively, there's even a platform for podcasts called #Castopod).
There are plenty of other YouTubers that are mirroring their content and have a presence here, yet they still keep a presence on other platforms among those previously mentioned just fine. And since you do have a significant audience, it would be great if you could also promote these alternatives and help them set out their presence here, just like other YouTubers did. It would help many out a lot.
