@clpolk 100% deserved though
Author-type person, mostly but not exclusively #Fantasy and #FantasyRomance. UK-based, #ActuallyAutistic, queer & disabled. I talk about books A LOT, bake cakes, stitch things and get too anxious about pretty much everything. Oh, and sometimes I actually do the writing.
@clpolk 100% deserved though
Folks, please leave mastodon.online and mastodon.social. Those instances have atrocious moderation. More and more instances are defederating from them every day.
I know it's a pain to migrate to another server when you only just moved from the birdsite. But it will be worth it.
I've created a small, incomplete, list of instances with moderators of color.
The list and suggestions became to much to keep up on my own, so here is a Google document, https://docs.google.com/document/d/12pTmSMpq8lMYyYlHT25DgTmdMmE6ysUyRHGiq-E4XdQ/edit?usp=sharingp
Here's how to move accounts and take your followers with you https://docs.joinmastodon.org/user/moving/

@bookishbrews It genuinely makes me sad to see loads of my bookstagram folks jumping on Hive because I like it here and I don't want to have to go somewhere else.
@Emmacox I would be tearing my hair out
(though I live near a place spelled Belvoir but pronounced Beaver so...)
@bookishbrews @bookstodon @diversebooks I see it in reviews - people criticise messy or unlikeable marginalised characters where a white (cis and maybe straight) character would prob be praised for complexity & join all the problematic fave lists. I love messy, complex characters & I want as much variety there as anywhere else. But I also see the risk of reinforcing stereotypes & mass-media narratives about marginalised people if you're not careful how you do the morally grey thing.
Today's very important (and slightly grumpy) author thoughts:
If it's ow, cow, vow, how, then why is it show, low, row, mow? And don't get me started on bow or bow.
It's a miracle any of us learned to read.
(I may have had to rename a fictional town because there was no way anyone would pronounce it the way I wanted them to)
The first black child ever allowed to attend a white school is only 68 years old now.
White parents pulled their children from school. White teachers refused to teach her.
Ruby Bridges now works as an activist & public speaker
This wasn’t a million years ago. /1
@JaeAuthor I am here for this logic
One of my favourite queer romance authors is now on mastodon and I feel like the day is a little bit brighter ☀️
One less reason to have to sometimes venture back to the other place....
@bookishbrews Yes the cover is gorgeous and the sequel possibly even better
@sandragibbons That last one's a big one. I don't have the spoons to log on and post things every day, and all the algorithm'd sites really kick you for it
My cheap supermarket coat that has seen me through several winters has been slowly disintegrating for the last couple of years and has reached the point I really do need to replace it. And now I have seen the prices of non-supermarket winter coats, I have to say that Sam Vines knew what he was talking about with his Boots theory of economics. If you know you know.
@24hryabookblog ooh, I am going to be browsing that list when I have a bit of leisure time! The only book I've knowingly read that counts is Legends and Latte but I want to explore the genre some more
Mine was Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan - it didn't quite live up to the hype for me but it was still very good and I will be needing the sequel
An incomplete list of things I have done today while my open WIP taunts me in the background:
spent way too long updating my Inkarnate map for the project
reread the 4 chapters I'd drafted of a different WIP
scrolled Mastodon
poked at the shiny new idea I really shouldn't be focusing on right now
made and consumed many, many cups of tea
But amongst all that I did add another 47 words to it, so... a partial win?
@georgettetan Thanks! I thought they were private too, but then I'm not very good at tech stuff so it was entirely possible I misunderstood
When you make a self-deprecating joke about your totally well-adjusted coping mechanisms...
And then reread it a few minutes later and realise exactly how messed up you are.
Ouch.
@herefortheride good luck, that sounds terrifying
