Wrote a very short scene that gets me to the scene that (I hope) will be the slam-bang climax of my book.
I'm edging closer and closer to a complete first draft. Almost making myself do it by inches.
Sigh.

To whom it may concern..
Congratulations
You broke me
Going forward
purely as a defense mechanism
I refuse steadfastly
to take any of this shit seriously
This includes most definitely
your boring gotcha rants
and pointless combat politics hyperbole
I shall henceforth
fire back facetiously
at your pretentiousness
with mocking ferocity
in waves of parody
you will be
way too pissed
to ever get
Such is the perpetual curse
of the chronically humorless
so totally oblivious
to their partisan foolishness
that always makes enraged them
the butt of every joke
Plugging Plot Holes: Sid wondered, “Why couldn't someone just use a mirror to look behind them?” He couldn't come up with a good answer, so instead he pointed out the problem.

Thinking about this some more, and I think I CAN cut out most of what I have added at the beginning of this story. But I needed to write it, because it developed more specific motives for the protagonist, and created a better resolution that syncs better with the theme of the story and resonates with the secondary character's motives. Nicely done, me!
Working on a planetary romance* short fiction draft before breakfast while listening to Soundgarden's Superunknown is definitely a Mood.
*A Sesen story which I finished/beta'ed in 2014 and have been reworking for years and years. Sigh.
This is the only unsubmitted/unpublished story in my "Tower of the Rosewater Goblet" suite of stories that I wrote in 2014.
At some point, a Sesen collection will be published, I guess.
If you want to know more about my Sesen short stories, this sub-Q interview is a good place to start:

#WritersCoffeeClub May 2. How much research does your setting require?
A fair bit. I needed to learn about arcologies, megalopolises (megalopoli?), fusion energy, and artificial gravity via centrifugal force. Fun stuff!

#PennedPossibilities 659 MC POV: Tell us about your idea of a perfect day.
I sleep in, then make a big breakfast for my kids. We go to a park, and they play. Maybe we get ice cream. I come home, the kids play on their own, and I go into my office and write. If there were enough hours in the day, I'd make dinner, and we'd all eat together. That'd be really nice. I'd like that.

#WordWeavers May 2: Tell us something you liked about a recent passage you’ve written.
Now that I'm well into the climax of my book, I'm quite organically building emotional/character beats into what's "on paper" an action sequence, and it's because I know these characters so well that *everything* resonates. I just spontaneously wrote a whole emotional thing between my lead and one of my side characters, and it rose out of the situation all by itself.

There were many historic posts on the west side of the Rocky Mountains, and in this post I list those that are in the Yukon and northern BC. There were a surprising number of posts up there.... https://nancymargueriteanderson.com/historic-posts-in-the-west/
The Blog Schedule for the Week
When those you love
feel the sting of defeat
like we all sometimes do
and their world
is bleeding loser's blue
love them even more
Because the pit of self doubt
is where we need friends
to help lift us out
and get our sorry asses
back in the game

The title came to me at lunchtime—"What They Don't Tell You"—and now I've got a 600-word first draft about winter and death.
What they don't tell you is that you'll never be warm enough again.

John Stuart turned over the command of the district that surrounded the HBC's #FortStJames to William Connolly in about 1824, and James McDougall, who was second in command, must have resided at this HBC post. https://nancymargueriteanderson.com/researching-fort-st-james/

You’re not crazy for wanting people to see you.
You’re not weak for needing a win.
You’re not failing because no one clapped.
If all you do today is breathe and not delete the work, that’s enough.
Writing isn’t just putting words on a page. It’s bleeding clarity from chaos. It’s arguing with yourself until something true wins. It’s rewriting a sentence 12 times just to make it feel effortless.
Writers, what’s your weirdest ritual or biggest struggle right now?👇
Let’s talk shop.
