Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is not for me, and that's a very good thing!
It's not made for me, but it does not exclude me. I know I'm a dinosaur, as technically I watched TOS when it first aired. Along the way somewhere Trek lost its way and became just another angsty scifi shoot-em-up.
Then Seth McFarlane trojan-horsed a modern Trek series out of Fox and embarrassed Paramount. Strange New Worlds was their solid response. Star Fleet Academy, however, has...
... hit upon the way to mix the heart and reason for TOS into a pointed social commentary on issues of today... which is exactly what made Trek into "Trek" in the first place.
Look at Gen-Z. Look at the Portland Frog. Look at the youth in Nepal who raised Luffy's flag, overthrew their corrupt government, and used Discord to elect a new leader*.
This show is not for me. This show is for them! I am so glad to be along for the ride... once again... sixty years later!
* look at this again after watching episode 2.
40 years later, still cutting-edge tech for the humanities.
Hear me out: Ron Funches as Jay-Den's older brother, a Klingon estate lawyer who comes to #StarfleetAcademy to inform him a rich uncle has left him a large targ farm he seized through conquest.
European leaders should get Airbus A380 as official state planes and park it on visits to the USA directly beside the tiny US Airforce 1 just to annoy Trump.
I'm realizing, slowly, now that I'm halfway through Les Mis, that Victor Hugo *loves* worldbuilding.
He takes Sagan's Law literally: To bake an apple pie, one must first create the universe.
@jonhendry Well, you can't make a sentient species a mascot. It's disrespectful.

What's worse than adding an empty car to traffic? Adding another car or two to follow it! 😆
is the most hopeful thing about Starfleet Academy that the Golden Gate Bridge has lasted 1260 years?

I know YouTube ads have already gone shitty LLM-generated, but print ads seemed to be holding out. Well, I'm now seeing weird images regularly. Sigh.
Wow, my respect for Jay Duplass as an actor went even higher after watching him thru 2.5 in Industry. This guy deserves much better roles, but it seems like, as a producer & director, he's generous to a fault in giving them to others.
obligatory post after getting the email.
