Things I inherited from my grandmother: A love of animals, a loathing of capitalism, an antifascist core, and the ability to hold long, deep grudges.
Academic library worker and union activist.
Works in transportation research, particularly around climate change and environmental justice.

I made these posters last week. Hope you get to ride a bike today! #BikeTooter #BikeMonth #GoRideABike #letterpress

Taking Amtrak to San Jose for CARL to talk about unions and librarianship.
Pricier than BART but better connected to VTA and I can actually get work done on the train.
Today’s gonna be a good day.

One thing the #UCAFT librarian contract campaign has brought into focus for me is the value of librarians and other campus workers to be a part of the community around the university. It fosters richer connections across the board, but so few folks can afford to live in the area.
Today I’m meeting up with some grad students to help them with a BART challenge. It’s easy for me to do because I live close to BART. A lot of my colleagues couldn’t do this.
This morning has been full of #BikeTooter moments.
Walked the kid to school and had a chat with a friend biking to work at a stop light.
Biked to the district office to pick up #GoldenSneaker supplies and then drop them off at the school, saying hello to all the crossing guards.
Biked to the local bike shop to drop off my mixte having tire trouble. Saw @marcprecipice and his l o n g b o i Bullitt.
Now I’m riding the bus to work. (Shout out 52!)
Sharing this for folks in Canada or the USA - If you’re a Black-identified individual please complete & share this survey. Also, if you’re connected with Black community stakeholders, please share. Public spaces should be enjoyable & safe for all. https://www.isryorku.ca/beingblackinpublic
I'm working on something, and I need help.
Academic librarians - what does being an academic worker mean to you? How are you an academic? (Do you feel like an academic?)
I know I’m totally biased, but I don’t trust academic publishers to support reproducible research beyond their ability to profit off of it.
Here I am in the #TRBAM data privacy subcommittee bringing up ethics every chance I get.
Sad to be missing the bicycle committee meeting, but I gotta share my librarian professional ethics.
Let's talk about retention schedules!
#DataPrivacy
You can take audio recordings of meetings, use AI generate a transcript and then feed that into an LLM to generate minutes or notes. #TRBAM
But what about consent?
A half hour in to my first #TRBAM meeting and I’m already thinking about Mazzucato and Collington’s The Big Con.
We need to talk about the symbiotic relationship between consultants and the public sector — painfully obvious in TRB committees — if we’re going to address conflict of interests.
Kinda wild being in DC listening to John Bauters talk about how rad Emeryville is. My favorite place to bike in the Bay Area.
I biked through The Lab last week!

Imagine a world where libraries used an open source ILS and could just change vendors for support and management?
Would vendors be more responsive to user needs?
It’s interesting (infuriating) that transit agencies are really beholden to a few vendors for software and hardware, and the UX sucks.
It’s heartening (depressing) to realize that they are in the same boat as libraries. #TCampDC24 #transit #libraries #EveryILSSucks
The last print I made for #TRBAM and #TranspoCamp. I will probably save some to give to local bike folks. (I really should coordinate with local advocates to have these out. @BikeEastBay @marcprecipice @ascentale let’s talk!)
Hope you get to ride your bike today!

And another print I made to take to #TRBAM and #TranspoCamp. This one goes out to @metroshadow.
Buses are the best.
Here’s today’s print for #TRBAM and #TranspoCamp. I’m going to post some on the streets of Berkeley as well.
First print for #TranspoCamp and #TRBAM is done. I wonder what I’ll print today. Trains bring joy!
(Or misery if you’re a railroader.)
