ic405 - The Flaming Star Nebula. I had fun framing it this way - It reminds me of a dragon. See it? HaRGB palette with about 8.5 hours worth of exposure time. Wide distribution of filters for each exposure group. Details are in the alt text.

Here is one of my favorite visual objects, and makes a great astrophotography target too. Having a few names - The Owl Cluster, Dragonfly Cluster or ET Cluster, NGC 457 makes a great view in any size telescope. Details: 30 x 120s RGB, Stellarvue SVX102T Refractor, ASI2600MM. 🔭📷

A cluster of stars that resembles a dragonfly, an owl, or even ET from the movie the Extraterrestrial. Many of the stars are vibrantly colored orange, red, blue, yellow and they shine through a fairly dense background starfield.

The Crescent Nebula (NGC 6888). I never tire of imaging this object and the surrounding area.

Details: RedCat 51mm, ASI2600MC Pro, AM5 mount. Dual band Ha/OIII filter, 3.5 hours exposure time at Cherry Springs State Park during the Black Forest Star Party.

🔭📷

A crescent shaped nebula sits calmly surrounded by Hydrogen-Alpha wispy clouds and a sheening OIII blanket of blue dust and gas.

Here's what I worked on this weekend. The Summer Southern Milky Way! Using Canon R6, 70mm Zoom Lens @f/5.6, ISO 6400. A stack of 45sx10 frames, tracked on a Sky Guider. The data was captured at Cherry Springs State Park on 8/26. 🔭📷🌌

This is a wide-ish angle view of the Milky Way Galaxy and the Southern most view of it. The milky way has tufts of dust, gas and stars in its spiral shape, and this shows the bands at their southernmost perch in August. There are at least 50 eye candy nebula, clusters, and other dark nebule in this view.

Here is a wide field shot I took at Cherry Springs Star Party back in June. Just getting around to processing it. Shows a lot of the dynamic of a star party... Canon Ra mirrorless, f2.8,15s, ISO 6400. 🔭📷🌌

The Milkyway Galaxy runs into a tree line with a red illuminated star party including dozens of tel3escope and camp sites.

Why I Fell In Love With Monochrome

Since I restarted photography after long hiatus, I decided to concentrate on monochrome. For some reason, it came naturally to me to not produce colourful images anymore.

@tuparev Thanks! This data was captured using a Stellarvue SVX102T, ZWO ASI2600MM Pro and ZWO focuser/filter wheel,/guider etc all riding on a Losmandy G11 mount.

We get mixed results in our sky quality around here. That just means I have to capture even more data and toss out the worst frames.

Another older shot. The Whale Galaxy (NGC 4631) - Lots of friends to go along with this eye-candy. Be sure to scan all the small galaxy smudges in this shot. Almost 6 hours of exposure time including both RGB and narrowband filters. Cropped special - Galaxy Season style. 🔭📷

Image details: astrobin.com/c7mef7/

The whale galaxy named because of what its shape resembles. NGC 4631 (also known as the Whale Galaxy or Caldwell 32) is a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Canes Venatici about 30 million light years away from Earth.
