When I was babysitting in the late 1970's there was a house where I worked where they had a computer with a proto chat bot that responded like a psychotherapist. They also had removed all interior doors. No one else in St. Louis that I knew but them ate Marmite. I really enjoyed working there.

MECHANIC LOOKING UNDER MY IMAGINATION'S HOOD: *wiping hands on a rag* I see your problem. You've been filling this thing up with despair when it's supposed to run on joy.

The Luddites were a labor movement.
"The Luddites themselves 'were totally fine with machines,' says Kevin Binfield, editor of the 2004 collection Writings of the Luddites. They confined their attacks to manufacturers who used machines in what they called 'a fraudulent and deceitful manner' to get around standard labor practices.
'They just wanted machines that made high-quality goods,' says Binfield, 'and they wanted these machines to be run by workers who had gone through an apprenticeship and got paid decent wages. Those were their only concerns.'"
Also the men wore dresses and called themselves brides of Ludd.

Stop asking how the poor are going to get to work without cars, and start asking why the rich won't let the poor live close to their jobs.
@KatieKinsman Your wearable sculpture arrived today, I love it! The packaging was so thoughtful and pretty. The card from you made my day.

@ProcessParsnip hello there!
My guidelight is cruelty-freedom and my yays are: climate solutions, universal healthcare, and post-consumerism.
Hobbies that I would like to make more time for are: dancing the Texas Two-Step and playing Canasta.
I'm on Mastodon to gab.

A reminder that student journalism is thriving -- and doing essential work -- even as other local news media wither. Here's an example, from a Florida college that an extremist governor is turning into a right-wing propaganda mill. https://ncfcatalyst.com/inside-the-hostile-takeover-an-autopsy-of-the-jan-31-board-of-trustees-meeting/
@KatieKinsman the Ranunculus will be my little Valentine date.
The "no rabbit" blows my mind; definitely visiting your site again.

@JPinNV what a cool trip!
Time Travel
So much about the city seemed a decade in the past. I began to imagine we were time travelers. And I thought, what if I called home? Would the people who used to live there answer the phone?
The Museum of the Revolution
When we went to the museum of the revolution, we were told that we could pay to walk around and examine it closely from the outside, where there were tanks and an eternal flame to see, but that we couldn't go in. Later, people at our hostel from a country of previous colonizers, told us they had been allowed inside the museum, with a guide. They described it to us over breakfast, and thus we were able to form a museum of the revolution in our minds.
@JPinNV well put
