So you can better describe the ants you see here are some common descriptive words for the exoskeletons of ants:

striate - many parallel grooves
tuberculate - little protrusions covering the surface
reticulate - split into irregular cells
glabrous - smooth
punctate/foveolate - covered in little round depressions
rugulose - wrinkled
pilosity - the degree of pilosity refers to how hairy the ant is
reclinate hairs - hairs that lay flat
tomentum - wooly hairs
clavate hairs - club-shaped hairs

This is the Tianwen-1 landing site with the first few drives of the Zhurong rover. The background is a HiRISE image. Two names are informal and added by me, not by China. TAR is a Transverse Aeolian Ridge, what might be called a dune (but technically not). This was going to be the last of my Mars landing site images, but I have decided to add the final resting places of Spirit and Opportunity, taking us nicely up to Christmas.

The largest animal rock petroglyphs in the world; known as 'Dabous Giraffes', located in Air Massif, Niger.

The carvings (6m in height) are believed to have been done between 12000-7000 BC, during African Humid Period (14600-5000 years ago), when this region was less arid, and Sahara was a vast savannah, that streched thousands of miles. There are also remains of petrified wood found in the area, which gave evidence that region could sustain animal and human life.

I performed geologist’s alchemy. I turned powdered chemicals into a rock! Here is the platinum crucible coming out of the furnace at 1400 °C.

#Venus doesn't have much (if any) #calcite, no limestone, and little if any other carbonates.

Those carbonates instead are CO2 in Venus' atmosphere -over 90 times our atmospheric pressure. This gives Venus a surface temperature of 475°C.

Poor Venus.

Calcite for a habitable planet!
