President created this message to travel on Voyager 1. It's still out there traveling at 40,000 mph, looking for a cosmic community to catch it and play the media.

STATEMENT

This Voyager spacecraft was constructed by the United States of America. We are a community of 240 million human beings among the more than 4 billion who inhabit the planet Earth. We human beings are still divided into nation states, but these states are rapidly becoming a single global civilization.

We cast this message into the cosmos. It is likely to survive a billion years into our future, when our civilization is profoundly altered and the surface of the Earth may be vastly changed. Of the 200 billion stars in the Milky Way galaxy, some -- perhaps many -- may have inhabited planets and spacefaring civilizations. If one such civilization intercepts Voyager and can understand these recorded contents, here is our message:

This is a present from a small distant world,

a token of our sounds, our science, our images,

our music, our thoughts and our feelings. We

are attempting to survive our time so we may

live into yours. We hope someday, having solved

the problems we face, to join a community of

galactic civilizations. This record represents our hope and our determination, and our good

will in a vast and awesome universe.

The need for "closing the loop " is explainable in terms of complexity.

Complexity being a thing. That we swim in. But are mostly unaware of.

We should know more about how it works.

"We have to be able to close the loop between policy and implementation" - @pahlkadot

Yes! In complexity it's utterly, glaringly obvious that progress is otherwise impossible

When Alistair Campbell and Rory Stewart interviewed Kate Raworth just over a year ago, they seemed to accept that the growth dogma was leading us down a blind ally;

A year later, they're right back to singing the 'growth is good' song, in their discussion of UK Labour's attempts not to look like the centrist lame duck it is;

For 18 months I have been treated for breast cancer by wonderful NHS. I have had two surgeries,chemotherapy,radiotherapy heart scan and CT scan and my first mammogram.Now on targeted therapy for 3 years. I have not had to worry if private health insurance would cover my expensive treatment.
Please don't support politicians that want to replace the #nhs by the American heath model. This includes Farage and Reform. Check out his policies and backers.

The Romanian Constitutional Court had already made up their mind that despite corrupted elections, it would be better to allow the second round to proceed. Then new evidence came to light.

The corruption was driven by a foreign nation state. The only outcome could be to nullify and restart. And that's what the Court did.

This is how you deal with corrupt elections.

UK and US neck and neck in consumption of ultra-processed foods (if you’ll forgive the expression)

economist.com/science-and-tech

The image is a chart titled “Foods for thought” showing the consumption of ultra-processed foods as a percentage of total calories by country, based on studies conducted between 2015-2021. The horizontal axis represents the percentage of total calorie consumption (from 0% to 75%), while the vertical axis lists countries, including Britain, the United States, Canada, Brazil, Australia, Malaysia, France, Spain, Mexico, South Korea, and Italy.

Key points include:
	•	Britain, the United States, and Canada have the highest percentages, with multiple data points above 50%.
	•	Brazil, Australia, and Malaysia show moderate consumption, with most data points around 25-50%.
	•	France, Spain, Mexico, South Korea, and Italy display lower consumption, with data points mostly below 25%.
	•	Each country features multiple studies represented as red dots, showing variations within each nation. A single data point labeled “One study” is highlighted.

The data source is “A systematic review of worldwide consumption of ultra-processed foods: findings and criticisms” by M. Marino et al., published in Nutrients, 2021.

Shouldn’t we be experimenting with assisted dying before asking MPs to choose in an all or nothing vote?

Maybe a temporary bill to allow a few people wishing to die to do so under strictly controlled conditions - with MP observers?

As it says in the article, it may be 10 years before the next opportunity.
