@chad up with tree characters!
Personally, I'm even ok with "normal" trees as characters. I love a good tree story - where people talk about like, one particular tree and their history with it.

@drahardja @Holberg I am in full agreement with your thorough analysis. π
Getting a tiny bit of rain this evening... it's welcome, but so far it's in keeping with the pattern of the last few days: light sprinkles in the evening, but not really enough to compensate for the hot, sunny days. Of course the forest welcomes the relief, but what we really need is a proper soaking.
Seems like there's been a hatching of flying termites. They're flying around me and the computer, drawn to the light of my LED strip "chandelier". Every so often they land on my desk and screw each other. their delicate wings fall off, littering my desk.
They are a tasty treat for the geckos. last night I had two hanging out on the desk around my laptop, gobbling up tasty termites. In classic gecko form, each one tried to chase the other one off, but there was plenty for both of them. I started squeezing a few that landed on the desk and dropping them near the geckos. They loved it.
Tonight there's a gecko already stationed on my laptop, at the crease between screen and keyboard. Just now it was walking on the screen. its little feets were triggering the touch screen and it was navigating between various windows. Maybe there's a specific YouTube video it wants to watch ππ¦π».
@chad oh yea, I just remembered other kindergarten rules: share toys, take turns, clean up when you're done playing with something. This isn't rocket science, it's basic stuff.
@chad also a good reminder that 4 and 5 year olds can understand and act on cooperative rules, so there ought to be no problem for adults to do it, and yet....
@Bubbles wishing both of you a continued and speedy recovery!
@chad I think about that fairly regularly. I tell people that I operate on kindergarten rules: no biting, hands to yourself, play nice; and if you are mean to someone, you have to apologize and start playing nice (or you have to leave the class). I remember one asshole I used to be friends with was like...."kindergarten?" And in my mind, it's like ... Why not?!
I never stopped believing in kindergarten rules and my parents basically thought I was dumb and naive for wanting good treatment from people around me. Oh well.
@SandHillThicket I didn't know they came in white. They look tasty. π
@saltphoenix lol, solarpunk tag applies to many things, so it's not your fault!
@saltphoenix I meant the post about the washer guy, but imu is solarpunk too for sure!
@saltphoenix as if!
@saltphoenix I'd add the solarpunk tag to this post because people need to know lol
Washer repair guy is like: I just woke up, call me back in 2 hours. π I love that I live in a place that #islandtime is the norm. Don't you DARE try being in a hurry. π₯°
Our new power set up.
The charger on the left is always plugged into the generator cable, the inverter on the right always has the house main power line plugged in.
Start the generator, plug the cable in out there and the charger starts charging.
Everything electrical in the house is powered through the inverter, even when charging.
No more screwing around with a jumper cord or swapping plugs.
@crinstamcamp fantastic! Congrats on the new setup!
Saveur magazine did a story about some of my homies. I've attended this imu many times. If you ever visit big island, I'd recommend their imu experience. π₯Ή π₯° #food #hawaii #culture #cooking #restorativejustice #community #foodsovereignty #solarpunk

Nobody asked, but this is my favorite banana bread recipe: http://www.thefreshloaf.com/node/6639/my-favorite-banana-bread-recipe-it-has-no-eggs
the only modification i make is to use 3/4 cup or 1/2 cup sugar (which the recipe offers as an option).
It has the added benefit of being vegan.
Here is the bananaguette I made today in the solar cooker using this recipe. It came out delicious!
i just pulled out the second batch, this one with walnuts.
It's a perfect way to use up old bananas.
@SandHillThicket those look gooooood
7 years ago, there was a dead stick in the backyard of our little rental. I cut back the berry bramble and bleeding heart to give it space, created a mulched circle around it and fertilized it. That year it rewarded us with one rose. This year, it's taller than my son and covered with dinner plate sized roses with a spicy, almost cinnamon rose scent. He cut this one for me yesterday.
