Axing more corporate accounts tonight and finally getting around to putting Audible out to pasture.
Have a few credits that have stacked up in the meantime; what should I spend them on before dropping the rods from god?
Fiction I typically read is centered around: #CyberPunk, #SciFi, #SpaceOpera, #SpeculativeFiction, #SolarPunk, #MagicalRealism, and #Espionage
Big bonus points for books that treat magic as another branch of science, with its own system(s) of rule(s) to be studied and understood.
On the other side of the aisle: #SocialHistory, #Ontology, #Neurology, #Pharmacology, #EmergentSystems, #Mathematics, #Linguistics, and #Philosophy
Even if it's not in the above categories (which are admittedly narrow), if there's a must-listen, please recommend!
:boost_request: :pixelheart:
That is so cool, @tinker ! Tagging for #SolarPunkSunday !

🇬🇧 🚲 When I read Su J. Sokol's _Invisible Lines_, published in French in 2022, I never would have thought (naively) that it would come true a few months later: the story of a family living in New York City, forced to flee an increasingly police-state regime hunting down #anarchists #antifa activists, #progressives... or simply people disagreeing with it. They flee by #bike to what appears in the book to be a haven of #freedom and openness: Montreal.
Today, Su J. Sokol has published a sequel, currently available only in English: _Five Points on an Invisible Line_. I'm not sure I'll have the patience to wait for the French version, as I was so excited by the first volume.
Fun fact: the first volume was released in English under the title _Cycling to Asylum_. The French translation suggested _Les lignes invisibles_ (The Invisible Lines). To mark the release of the second volume, the first volume has been republished under the title _Invisible Line_.
A must-read for anyone interested in #solarpunk, a #political, #social, #queer, lucid tale of the future, which is no longer just a distant horizon, but also offers, through local and chosen communities, opportunities to think and act differently. And to #hope .
Available through Flame Arrow Publishing.
Pluralistic: The curious, intertwined history of climate and digital rights activism (11 Oct 2025)

“Everything gets used twice” is the second principle in our new culture. Twist ties get used for tagging plants, old clothing becomes rags, exhausted bicycle inner tubes become bungies and handle bar padding.
My child showed me how to use dessert twice, she cut the carrot cake cookie in half to share it with me.
I want to hear from people who have made lifestyle changes in response to climate change.
Do you travel less / fly less? Eat differently? Shop differently?
I'm interested in what changes you've made specifically in response to climate change, when you started, and what got you to the tipping point of taking that action.

also from that walk, I love the vibrance, mood and clarity on this one, also the birds! It feels a bit like #solarpunk
With great power, comes the ability to #SolarPunk the world, make energy free, and end electricity bills once and for all.

And there I finished the whole big first issue of #Solarpunk Magazine. On to the second!
I got the whole first year with 6 issues, although there's like 40+ issues now if I recall :shibaohshit: , so no chance of ever catching up, but I'll probably try to pick some semi-random newer issues in time, just to get a view of the state of where the genre is heading
Imagine the near future when people have come together to take care of each other and provide for everyone. You work only a few hours a week, you live in a beautiful home surrounded by plants and trees. Food is healthy and abundant.
Most people today would arrive in such a scene as traumatized refugees. That's what we have to fix to reach that future.
@dain @dhuyvetter @AndyDearden @pluralistic there are attempts at more gritty and involved #solarpunk , it's just that hey don't get as much space to get published as the purely utopian ones.
Take a look at https://storySeedLibrary.org/ (both art and the writing Seeds), as well as https://www.youtube.com/@Andrewism/ 's channel.
@dhuyvetter @AndyDearden @pluralistic to me the biggest value in this post is the reframing of these wicked problems and trying to get to the root cause. So while I know and love both #degrowth and #solarpunk, the former is too focused on the abstract capitalist system demanding growth and the latter on visions of green utopia but what I haven't yet seen in either is confronting the current power structures that prevent us from getting there.
Don't get hung up on too much my characterisations above, I guess my main point is that it's super useful for any movement to see one level deeper into the systems governing us to be able to direct the activist energy to the biggest leverage points. In this case to me it's understanding the drivers and effects of extreme inequality and then finding ways to fight it that could offer solutions to seemingly disconnected movements.
@dain @pluralistic I feel it overlaps a lot with #solarpunk although it isn’t really the same thing.
Gott sei Dank! 🙏 😅 #Solarpunk 🌞
