There once was a dairy in Kerry
Whose team played well against Derry
Derry Carried the ball
But Kerry won it all
So the Kerry Dairy was Merry

Baltimore astronomer who studies exoplanets and stars using NASA's space telescopes..big and small.
Passionate about archives and trying to reduce the barriers between you and the data needed to answer questions about the Universe we live in.
Singer of songs. Mother of 2 amazing kids.
Baltimore. Ireland. Wisconsin.

Day of Accessibility at STScI with Josh Miele talking about his research in accessibility.
He points out the importance of user testing when he made street maps accessible for the blind. All originally built in Matlab.
I'm already exhausted and I've only had my badge for an hour. #aas241
Astronomers coming to #AAS241:
Night Lunch – Seattle's only all-astronomer rock band – is reuniting in Seattle on Jan 10 at the Sunset Tavern in Ballard, 7pm.
As Dr. Toby Smith once opined: "I might define their sound as almost piquant, but definitely non-LTE."

#AAS241 here I come. Astronomy all the time for 4 days is a lot. Don't forget to pace yourself, everyone.
Happy #JWSTLaunch anniversary. May your galaxies be bright, your exoplanet transits be deep and your stellar nurseries be merry.
Every year I'm amazed by these glasses we have that turn all the twinkle lights into snowmen.
#JWSTFirstScience Conference photo taken this past week where we saw the Universe in a whole new way. I've never heard astronomers audibly "ooo" and "aww" so much at a conference.
How #JWST changed astronomy in a year. Words by me https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-022-01860-3
We just finished a three day meeting describing some of the first results from JWST. #JWSTFirstScience
My take away: Despite living in an expanding Universe...the Universe doesn't feel quite as big as it did this time last year.
#JWSTFirstScience conference is starting tomorrow. For more information on how to live stream the event see https://www.stsci.edu/contents/news/jwst/2022/live-streaming-the-first-science-results-conference
@crawfordsm Unfortunately, no. I was just helping to sort them today. But you can watch the live stream of the talks Monday -- Wednesday here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCz9piVEpww5SibUdrRSOl-Q/featured
I spent part of the day going through posters for #JWSTFirstScience Conference at STScI next week. Astronomers sure have been having fun with #JWST data over the last six months!
I enjoyed singing with the Towson University Choir and orchestra tonight. The church had amazing acoustics for the event. I haven't sung like that since coming to Baltimore. Such fun, but I'd have appreciated it if Mozart wrote in a few less high Gs.
On behalf of the telescope's user committees, STScI is soliciting the community's interests & concerns related to data access policies and exclusive access periods for NASA telescope data. Those who work on or benefit from these data, please fill out this form and express your opinions. #JWST #HST https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdXeJGP5vMKpRWmTqhrmgXT5rHe-A-rpG25yYnYgBZk3FXwew/viewform
This data is exciting for many reasons, but one unexpected thing was the discovery of SO2 (sulfur dioxide) in this #exoplanet's atmosphere.
SO2 is produced through photochemistry (photons from the star interacting with molecules in the atmosphere) and has never been seen in an exoplanet before!
But adding extra seconds to all of our clocks worldwide can cause all sorts of problems in today’s highly technological & interconnected society, where precise time-stamping is critical in many systems.
So this week in Paris, the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) at the 27th General Conference on Weights and Measure, decided to stop the practice of adding leap seconds by or before 2035.
👋 I've been on here a while. It's time for some #introductions. I'm an astronomer who is amazed by how much we can learn about the Universe if we just look. I work in Baltimore to make data from NASA's space telescopes accessible and easy to use, like JWST, Kepler and TESS. I really love time series data and use it to find planets and study stars.
When not looking at stars or my computer you'll find me singing in a choir, playing with my kids, or playing a board game.
