@oausi I'm wondering, though: Are you really okay with risking the exposure of all your family's personal data, for instance to someone who might break in and steal your server?

That can be a nightmare to deal with as it opens you up to impersonation, spear phishing and potentially blackmail.

Your personal cloud should really come with minimized risk of involuntary exposure of the data you trust it with in my opinion.

@oausi I get that notion, however it does not align with the goals of Nextcloud Atomic.

The project's primary mission is to make it possible for users to achieve sovereignty over their data by self hosting without sacrificing security or reliability in comparison to software-as-a-service solutions.

Therefore, basic security features like disk encryption will not be optional, but I will try to provide fallback solutions for legacy hardware where needed.

@oausi Support for the Raspberry Pi is definitely planned, but the technical details aren't clear yet (specifically how to deal with disk encryption and trusted boot when TPM 2 is not available).

The first proper release will likely only bring x86 VM images and I will work on bare metal images (including RPi 4+5) shortly after.

I cannot give ETAs for the milestones because the time I have to work on the project is hard to estimate, but at least you can see how they progress.

Right now, contributing code (and system configuration) is a great way to help, but there will certainly come a time where other skills are required, e.g. translation, testing, writing community resources and so on.
But I need to get a bit more things done until then.
