Next weekend, 3th and 4th of May
#amateurradio infobooth at #makerfaire Gent
With all 120 registrations for the #HamconBe25 filled up (thank you all for that! ๐ฅณ ), we expect a lot of people at the #conference.
To avoid that people would not be able to join at least one talk in every timeslot, it gives us great please to announce that two more presentations are added to the schedule.
One of them has already been confirmed
"Moonbouncing at 10 Ghz. Design of a small 10 GHz moonbounce station" by Hans ON4CDU
Stay tuned for more into on HamConBE
For those who will be at the dirage hamfest tomorrow, HamCon Belgium will also have a stand, ... so feel free to come by and say hello ๐
We can talk not only about our own little #conference but also other places we plan to promote #amateurradio #makerfaire Gent, newline (hackerspace Gent), #brucon spectrum-conference.
@M0CUV You can operate meshastic both under hamradio legislation or under SRD (short-range device) legislation.
The legislation you chose determines the technical parameters you must adhere too.
@eljojo @MichaelPorter I guess it's all a question of use.
DCF77 has a range of around 1500 km. Great for for a country the size of Germany. but not enough for a country the size of Canada.
by the way, if you ever do a CTF/CTS (capture the flag/capture the signal) SDR challange and the question is "at what time/date was this signal recordedยจ, there is quite a big change the signal is DCF77. ๐
it an fun signal to decode as it contains both CW (easy) and PSK (more complex)

If youโve registered but later realized you wonโt be able to attend, we kindly ask you to ๐ถ๐ฏ๐ด๐ถ๐ฃ๐ด๐ค๐ณ๐ช๐ฃ๐ฆ. This will allow us to offer your spot to another enthusiast who is eager to join. Every seat matters, and this small action helps ensure that as many people as possible can enjoy the event.

We are pleased to announce that ๐๐ฎ๐บ๐๐ผ๐ป ๐๐ฒ๐น๐ด๐ถ๐๐บ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฑ has reached full capacity with 120 registrations! The response has been beyond what we anticipated, and weโre truly grateful for the enthusiasm and support from the tech and science community.
Thank you for making the very first HamCon Belgium such a success. Weโre looking forward to seeing you there! ๐

@MichaelPorter
@eljojo yes, indeed. Except that CHU is a station on shortwave, not longwave
Concerning satellite, don't forget emergency communication: the ability to set up a high-bandwidth network connection from almost everywhere in the world (except the poles) in a matter of minutes.
I consider DCF77 (LF-radio based time-transmitters) and GNSS complementaory, not "better" or "worse"
DCF77 does not gives you the time-resoluation that GNSS satnav systems do
But it does is a lot more difficult to jam and it reaches places satellite signals do not.
Note, Germany is far from the only country that has these transmitters:
https://dxinfocentre.com/time-vlf.htm
Just to show how important and omni-present "space" really is.
we are organizing a conference on amateurradio and radiotechnology here in three weeks:
https://hamcon.be/
two of the talks and the workshop are on space-related topics.
That is 3 topics out of 11.
And you can also mention some less known telecommunication via satellite,, like enviromental sensors, or to monitor rivers and control the locks in remote areas
Also as a backup network for terrestial telcom networks
@MichaelPorter GNSS (satnav) not only provide location but also time information. (needed to synchronise devices)
You can also mention how easy it is to receive signals from space via a number of DIY projects they can join themself
Look up TinyGS (telemetry for university satellites) or satdump (software to receive weather image and other data)

HamCon Belgium 2025
26th of April, Leuven, Belgium
#hamconBe promises to be a swell conference with interesting speakers and very curious visitors.
You've got a project related to #radiotechnology that fits the spirit of the conference you want to talk about?
Then an infobooth might be just what you (and we) want!
Contact us via email (info@hamcon.be) , direct message on mastodon/fediverse or join the discussion on matrix:

@radiotelescoop
I do quite a bit of promotion for for amateur radio (FOSDEM, makerfaire, hackerspaces). It is very easy to get people interested in something as geeky as 'receiving signals from space' but to keep them interested, we need to be able say 'go to that forum, all amateur radioastronomy geeks are there and they can help you to get started'.
@radiotelescoop
Thanks, I will surely contact you thuis Evening.
But what about online?
Is there a place /forum / discord channel / matrix room / whatever where all radioastronomy geeks hang out?
Somewhere where somebody new who is interested in this might go to see what it is all about?
@radiotelescoop
Hi Dwingeloo people, a small question to you: we are organizing a small one-day conference on #radiotechnology here in Belgium, which includes three talks on #space and #radioastronomy . It there an amateur radioastronomy community out there? And how can we reach them?
(HamConBE25: 26th of April, Leuven, Belgium) https://hamcon.be/
Ladies and Gentlemen, now it is official:
The list of presentations of #HamConBE 25
#hamradio: promotion, ARDF and Digital voice
#radiotechnology : tracking asian hornet, #emc #sdr and #meshtastic
Radio is #science and #space : #ionosphere research using #sat , #radioastronomy and #weatherradar
Workshop: #TinyGS
So there is something for everybody!

#hamConBE25
26 April 2025
Leuven, #belgium
@RenewedRebecca @salvatorelasorella Ah, I didn't know that. (but it sounds logical).
My 2nd computer (after by Coco) was an amiga500, so I do have a special feeling for the 68000.
Very useful info. Thanks! ๐
I am currently helping out the organisation of the hamradio conference here (so quit busy now), but when things calm down a bit, I will surely look into this!
Is set up a groundstation for #satellite telemetry difficult or expensive?
No, not at all!!!
https://www.tog.ie/2022/02/building-a-tinygs-station/
Not your thing to build this just by yourself?
And you live in #belgium ?
Then you are in luck. A workshop on exactly that will come to a #hamradio conference near you.
