I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time - when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the key manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness. The dumbing down of America is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30-second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance.

The board is incorrect. The OSI has corrupted the term Open Source by allowing those who want to propagate AIs that launder Open Source and proprietary code/data alike to do so under the banner of "Open Source". In particular, the so-called "Open Source AI" definition permits calling an AI "Open Source" even if it was trained on Open Source code or data and the license of its weights and outputs completely ignores the license of its training data.

This is an attempt to normalize the unacceptable practice of letting AI launder away the licenses of its training data, and to continue the practices of establishing "facts on the ground" that augur towards being able to continue ignoring the licenses of training data. The flagrant behavior of current AI training should not be allowed to continue, and should not be treated as a valid negotiating position from which to "compromise". Do not normalize the violation of Open Source licenses.

Ein erster grober Entwurf für das Design meines #Airgroover #Velomobil ist in Arbeit. Derzeit scheitere ich beim Versuch, #Openfoam für die aerodynamische Analyse in #Freecad einzubinden. Ab jetzt möchte ich eigentlich jede Weiterentwicklung der Formgebung mit einer #CFD Analyse begleiten, um ein möglichst gute Aerodynamik zu erzielen.

Die vorderen Räder werden frei stehen, aber unter einer mitlenkenden Haube vor dem Wind versteckt werden. Die hinteren Räder werden in die Karosserie integriert.

Das Velomobil wird vier Räder bekommen, um eine hohe Fahrstabilität zu erreichen. Die Vorderachse wird sich im Gegensatz zu auf dem Markt befindlichen Mobilen stark unterscheiden. Zum einen wird aus Platzgründen der Antrieb vorne erfolgen, zum anderen wird die Geometrie der Achse so gestaltet, dass bei ungleichmäßig ziehenden Bremsen sich das Fahrzeug selbstständig stabilisiert und nicht zum ziehen in Richtung des stärker bremsenden Rades tendiert.

Das ganze Projekt soll frei zugänglich für alle als #Openhardware veröffentlicht werden. So ist es dann auch Möglich Ideen die gefallen zu kopieren und in ganz anderen Projekten zu verwenden.

20 Years of #Grml Releases!

On 22nd and 23rd of October 2004, an open source event called “OS04” took place in Graz, Austria. Jon “Maddog” Hall gave the keynote speech; and the first release of Grml was published. Now, 20 years later, Grml is still around! 🥳
