Today my team @ProPublica released a news app that will allow you to look up any university, museum or other institution that receives federal money and has the remains of Native American people that they have yet to repatriate.
Here's my alma mater, the University of Florida, clocking in just under the top 10.
You can look up your own here: https://projects.propublica.org/repatriation-nagpra-database/
Hey does anyone know anything about buprenorphine?
GP is offering a short term course for this hell pain flare. But fucked if I know anything about it. Not keen on taking it before I know if the patient community has had any major issues with it.
Any help appreciated! ๐งก
@j12i (gonna have to tap out here - hopefully other describers can pick up the other ones)
@j12i @imagecaptionspls A gap in the trees, with wide standing stones in their shade at the edge of it. A sheep explores a tree stump that stands in the open grassy space.
@j12i @imagecaptionspls A gravestone stands in a clearing, well-lit against the dark of the trees behind it. The ground is grassy with dry leaves. A white sheep walks through the field, in front of and to one side of the stone; a black sheep nears the camera, and is partly cut off from view.
@j12i @imagecaptionspls Black-and-white photograph. A dark field, surrounded by trees, but with an opening where the hill descends and the sky shines brightly in. White sheep and black sheep, their wool edged with light, walk between gravestones. One stands upright, others are fallen at different angles, all have patches of lichen.
The NYT continues to be trash at covering so-called "AI" (or, in NYT style sheet "A.I.").
This piece is framed as though the folks working on protein folding "took inspiration" from DALL-E & the like:
https://www.nytimes.com/2023/01/09/science/artificial-intelligence-proteins.html
No, "A.I." doesn't have "artistry". And no the biologists didn't look at all the synthetic images on social media being passed around as "AI art" and say "hey, let's do that for proteins!"

Hello everyone,
Since we are new here on Mastodon, we would like some help finding academics and other professionals with an interest in #citizenscience. So give us a boost, if you can. Thanks! ๐
For those that don't know us yet: Scivil is the center for citizen science in Flanders (Belgium). We gather and spread #citsci knowledge, and bring actors and projects closer together.
We're also active beyond Flanders & within the EU, so we mainly 'toot' in English. Bye!
@c0debabe 2/2 then the next day the bird was back at the window and it flew over again and flew back and forth, so she went out to check and the feeder had frozen. So she brought it in, warmed it up, put it back out, now the same couple birds come every day.
And I loved this extremely successful cross-species communication (and as someone who had parakeets for a decade+, it all checks out to me).
@c0debabe So last week, I heard a story from an acquaintance who moved from PA to AZ and thought you might enjoy it because birbs!
They hung out a hummingbird feeder when they first got there, but took it down as it got colder (AZ cold, not PA cold).
Then one day she found a hummingbird looking in her kitchen window, when she came to the window it flew to where the feeder was like "what gives, lady???" so she put it back out... 1/2

The English word "glitch", now so beloved of digital artists, is a loan word from Yiddish. https://boingboing.net/2019/10/29/the-yiddish-roots-of-glitch.html

I heard a rumour recently that it's also a given name in that language! I can't find it on any online name lists though. And, I mean, who would want a name meaning "data error"? Aside from me, of course. I would love a name meaning "bad data".
