Let's compare the total height of the Safari UI with a toolbar, favourites bar and tab bar visible, across the three latest Mac OS design languages – Yosemite, Big Sur and now Tahoe. I was kind of expecting this to happen as I had set up symbols for all my iPhone / iPad app menu items, and they just didn’t appear at all in the Mac Catalyst build which felt strange at the time.

Rounded corners is going to be the next “5K” of monitors. A thing only Apple does and a reason to buy their monitors at 6x the price.

@helge Yeah possibly. But they won’t do that because of user outcry, there’s no scaling back, only optimizing readability with vibrancy effects and such. If anything they’ll make it shine and sparkle even more.

Okay nice to see that Proxygen works just fine in Tahoe even if I don’t release an update on day one. Going to enjoy my summer and take my time thinking how I’ll approach the eventual overhaul 😌

@sageolson @siracusa I used this as my main theme on iBook G4 for months. It was glorious!

There are some parts of iOS 26 where readability happens to not be an issue and the glass effect works incredibly well. But so many others where it falls completely apart.

The Metal shader casts quite a nice lighting on these Liquid Glass buttons

Proxygen app needs some work but overall not many parts are broken. This is also almost entirely standard system UI.

Just opened my Maptrails project in Xcode 26 and built it without changes. Everything looks already quite good!

Doing standard UI with minimal customization pays dividends when the system theme changes from under you.

It’s as if Apple saw my circular map buttons and was like “just a tad more shadow radius and we’ll use those everywhere!” 😀

Edit: okay looks like your screenshot was taken with the window in inactive mode where the toolbar is dimmed. It’s not as bad when the window is in focus.

If the new Toggle shape is designed to "match the contour of the human finger", then you gotta ask... why has it been ported to macOS as well?

With the new shape and sizing of the UI on macOS Tahoe, it sure seems like Apple is preparing macOS for a touch-screen capable Mac to release in this cycle.

@martind Not all UI needs to be fully transparent glass. We can do whatever we want!

(FWIW people have asked me to make them semitransparent already before, so maybe not such a bad idea)
